Is this poor behaviour on the part of my Dentist's Practice

I've been going regularly to the same Dentist (lets call him Mr A) for many years nearby. I've been at the same practice for about 30 years.

My next appointment was booked 6 months ago.

I found out in casual conversation recently with someone that Mr A has left and been replaced by Mr B.

The dentist's receptionists ring you a couple of days before an upcoming appointment to remind you of the date and time.

This time I said I hear the guy I see has left? Were you going to tell me?

Receptionist replied that they haven't told any of their patients as they have too many.

I resent being treated like this when I'm paying.

Am I being unreasonable? Can this be the right behaviour in the dentistry code of practice? Is it just a cheeky way to treat patients.

If I was to cancel I would probably have to pay for the appointment anyway.

I wouldn't expect an announcement necessarily if my dentist left, but it would be nice. In my case I'm pretty sure they'd tell me as they know I've extreme anxiety and would politely refuse another of their dentists purely due to not knowing them. Other than the owner who's always really busy so I wouldn't be referred to him unless I requested it. I think he's also a bit more expensive as he's a dental surgeon.

If he hadn't retired, you could just join his new practice. Otherwise I'd say you'll need to meet the new one and make a decision if they make you feel sufficiently comfortable.

Thank you for your comments.

I haven't been able to find an NHS dentist for many years so yes this is a private one.
I liked my previous dentist and saw him for at least 10 years.

It would have been courteous of the practice if I'd simply heard via a text that a new person would be seeing me.

I'm not a person that feels happy going to the dentist and I spend my money carefully.

Hopefully I'll feel happy with the new guy.

I'm not entitled! I would rather see someone on the NHS but in my area it doesn't seem to be possible.
