Vinted counterfeit bag

Squirrelz5 · 29/10/2024 19:41

I bought a bag on vinted. I am fairly certain it is a counterfeit. I've compared it with genuine one in photos and there are multiple differences. I have bought dozens and dozens of items on vinted and never had a problem.

Seller has asked me to return it but I've said no as it's £4 of my own money I have to spend.

I've reported it to vinted who have given her until end of play today to provide proof of authenticity. She's saying she bought it off someone else on vinted who hasn't replied yet and telling me how upset she is.

AIBU to think don't advertise something as genuine if you didn't buy it from source? AIBU to have not sent it back and wait for refund?

If you wanted to ensure it was genuine then you should have paid extra for the authentication check

If it wasn't an option then it wasn't that expensive and you should have realised for the price it wasn't going to be authentic

There was no option to do this

I had this with a Ganni bag.

sent me a totally different ‘ganni’ bag to the one I’d ordered and when I said not only wasn’t it what I’d ordered but clearly counterfeit and I’d be reporting her, she just immediately refunded me and said she never sells counterfeit but clearly it’s a large operation and she didn’t want me to rumble her. I also have no idea what to do with the bag as it’s totally obviously fake but I deffo wouldn’t be paying to return it or even going to the effort of returning it even if they had paid.

Loads of ganni and anine bing stuff on there that looks suss to me. You can tell as they’ll often use the same photo multiple times.

ForDogsSake · 30/10/2024 18:21

Did she advertise it as a ( brand name ) bag?
I once sold an item that looked like a brand name item, but nowhere in the listing did I use a brand name so I couldn't be accused of selling a fake item.

Yes in the 'brand' bit at the bottom it says the brand name. It's not even a mega expensive bag but one that is known for replicas. They looked so genuine in the photos (because they were photos lifted from somewhere else!)

Send her what vinted said and if you are convinced she did this on purpose then block her

I can't see any other reason she would use a different bag in the photos (well, same bag but the photos are a genuine version and the one I've got is totally different!)

I’’m so reluctant to purchase anything over £50/£100 off Vinted or eBay anymore. If I was going to by anything high end/designed I’d buy from a more reputable source (albeit more expensive) too many scams and fakes sadly.

I'm a bit nervous to message her as she's very ott emotional (I was very factual and reasonable and she's referred to me as a scammer and ridiculous which I'm absolutely not - I've got over 200 seller reviews and 50+ buyer reviews and all are 5 star bar 2 which are 4!). I will message now and ask if she would be willing to pay for postage. Didn't know this was an option!

Surely Evri is £2:25? Just post it back...

Not a chance! I'm not being out of pocket even by 20p for someone who has gone out of her way to scam me. She has the option to send a return label if she wants it back. She hasn't and has demanded I send it back and provide my own proof of postage. As soon as she sends a return label I'll shove it in the post but I'm not spending my own money on it.

It can't have been that expensive of verification wasn't available as it needs to be £100 for verification option.

If you've bought a designer handbag at a cheap price, then you know the saying 'if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is'

Just send it back. Isn't evri £2.29?

After with this. Screen shot the response from Vinted, ask her again for a returns label and if she doesn’t respond then block her.

Dont pay to return it - she’s tried to scam you and lost. Tough on her

It's really simple, why overthink it. Tell her to send the return label or you'll dispose of the item. Give her a deadline, if you like. Then block her after that.

They're £250-£300 brand new and she was selling for £99. So it's not exactly Gucci, but lots of lower end nice handbags are counterfeited. For example Michael Kors which sell for say £150 and you can buy for a tenner for a fake one. Didn't realise it needs to be £100. Interesting she sold for £99.

She's.good (at scamming). That was clearly deliberate.

JaneEyreLaughing · 30/10/2024 19:41

Could you tell Vinted about her latest communications and ask if they will send her an email, telling her that they have told you to destroy it.

Op can send screenshots to the seller.

There's a good sub on reddit r/vinted

I've just uploaded some expensive French artisanal shoes and they have a verification option for the buyer.

Is this not automatic for "designer" items?

It’s £100 or more to trigger the verification service, which I believe is optional for the buyer but they don’t offer it on items under £100.

Which is why it’s interesting the seller listed the bag the OP has bought at £99…!!

ColinOfficeTrolley · 30/10/2024 21:12

If I wanted an item verified that was £99, I would ask them to relist for £100 and make verification available.

If they say no, then there's your answer.
