So many tins don't stack nowadays! Heinz baked beans. wtf?!

Why wouldn't they make them stackable? It's madness!!

There must be a reason they're doing this. I don't understand it 😫 I hate paper straws, and bottle lids that don't come off, but at least there's a reason for it.

YANBU. I do not want to be hit by flying tins when I move things in the cupboard because the damn things no longer stack.

They used to stack though, right? Am I misremembering and they were always like that?

I swear they used to stack. Heinz soups don't stack either. Pain in the arse. I switched to Branston beans... They stack👍🏼

YANBU OP, I generally avoid Heinz due to this issue. I wonder if it's some wanky "we don't make food for anyone else, you can tell because our tins are different!!!" nonsense.

ETA: The exclamation marks are to try and get inside the mindset of the blithering idiot genius who made the tins not stack.

Yes, I've noticed this in recent years, as well, that some stack and some don't. I imagine there have always been some that didn't stack, but the fact that we're noticing it (and being rightfully annoyed by it) suggests that it's more common now.

No idea why it is, though. These days, more of them have the tabs on top for easy opening, so you don't need a tin opener, but I don't think there's necessarily any correlation there. AFAIK, some of the easy-open style are stackable, and some of the old-fashioned ones aren't, so it's not just the 'new'/'easy' type that don't stack.

Definitely! I used to work at Waitrose and they definitely stacked then.
Just did a quick google and apparently it's so that when stacked on shelves they have to stay in their branded cardboard trays; giving them more advertising.
Pain in the bum when you get them home though!!

It might also suggest that I'm getting old and would never have cared about something like this when I was younger. Now I'm incandescent 😤

I just realised this yesterday while trying to stack two tins of Heinz beans in a very full cupboard. Madness!

DazedAndConfused321 · 29/10/2024 14:50

They don't stack! i'm so glad i'm not the only one who noticed this. Also all my shelves are 1cm too short to fit 2 tins stacked so I'm angry anyway!

RafaistheKingofClay · 29/10/2024 14:58

They definitely did used to stack. I also don’t buy Heinz anymore because of this. Branston and own brand do stack so I’ve switched to those.

pandaskitchen · 29/10/2024 15:01

Yep- Stopped buying Heinz for this reason. Plus own brands are just as nice.

I was told if you turn the one on top upside down they do sometimes stack- but I've not tried that.

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 29/10/2024 15:07

Tinned mandarins drive me mad with this. I tend to put them in a higher cupboard as they are small. But that just means opening the cupboard is a concussion risk as tins rain down vengeance upon me.

BakedBeansforabrain · 29/10/2024 15:09

Stop buying Heinz beans they are over rated

its like beans in tomato soup the juice is so watery
