Stairgate issue

Sorry for posting here, not sure where else.

I love in a rented property, and don't want to screw in a stair gate at the top of the stairs.

One reason I don't want to screw it in is because I'll have to screw it into stair rail, and it would end up breaking it. The other reason is that it's uneven on both sides (one side has a wooden block poking out of the wall near the floor) I can't get it on unless it's lifted slightly. Not sure what stair gate is best to use.

Also, how do I make the windows toddler safe without screwing anything in?

I have been sleeping in the living room as I don't know how to make upstairs safe

Thank you

I never had a stair gate with mine but we would tell them that stairs were dangerous. We never had a serious injury, the odd bruise but TBH once they fell they started respecting the stairs.

Check out pressure fit safety gates - I've got this one for DD's bedroom door and it's brilliant:

I don't understand what the problem is with the windows?

We never bothered with stairgates. My kids are 4 and 18m.

We live in a very higgledy piggledy place in respect of stairs, including 2 steep staircases and a handful of other stairs when you least expect them too 😆 Never had any issues.

Just teach your kid to be careful on the stairs and around windows. I am one of three generations brought up on the sixth floor flat with zero childproofing and none of us dived off the balcony.
