Worried kitten has licked it's flea treatment

I've put advantage 40mg spot on solution to my 2 two kittens that are 9 weeks old.

I can't work out if theyve just been licking themselves or have been licking the flea treatment I put on about 2 hours ago.
They're fur is a bit sticky/wet at the sides and one of them keeps leaning to lick it's neck.

Both seem quite energetic still but just paranoid. Is advantage safe for kittens to lick?

It's not great, but they all do it. It's actually ridiculously hard to find a spot that isn't bang on the top of their head that they can't lick 'somehow'.

Advantage is really bitter (yes, I have tried it and, no, it was not deliberate!) so they're unlikely to ingest much, and I wouldn't worry about this unless they lick loads. It does spread on the fur but should have dissipated by the morning.

You should discourage them from licking and you might have to separate them for 48 hours.
Put on some gloves, lift the fur and see if the skin looks red or irritated compared to the surrounding skin. It would be worth keeping an eye on it for the next couple of days and if you see any skin changes or they haven't stopped licking by the morning, ring your vet.

One of my kids managed to lick the cats flea treatment and was fine

I’ve had multiple dogs and cats do this and never had a problem. I’d just ensure that there is plenty of fresh water in their bowl and keep an eye on them. They’ll be fine.

Thanks. They're going nuts and running around so seem fine

Thanks. That's reassuring. Is advantage weak compared to the stuff vets give?

I couldn't get a vets appointment within a week I got them so wanted to get the flea treatment done sooner rather than later.

With the cats I've had, if one of them was stupid enough to get a tiny taste of the treatment, they've started foaming at the mouth like they've got rabies. All been perfectly fine after they've had a drink/snack/second dinner, though.

Sounds like the treatment has spread, going by your description of their fur, together with unsuccessful attempts to reach it - don't know if you've ever tried applying a lotion to your scalp, but it can make you itch just from the sensation of something cold and wet in some of your hair, but not all of it.

I’m not sure if ‘weaker’ per se but I’ve stopped using Advantage and now use the three monthly pill from the vets as Advantage just wasn’t doing it for us. But we have multiple pets, lots of long grass around etc.
Honestly, I’d relax!
