So difficult being a nurse

I graduated as a RMN last year, I love my job yet loathe the hours. No matter what I do there is a barrier with childcare.

it is impossible to be a nurse and have a great work life balance with your family. Sometimes I wish I chose a different career. Or become a nurse before I had children to then have more flexibility and experience in lue. Any words of wisdom please

I work in a large A&E and its almost entirely self rota'd now, i pick my 2 shifts and add a note for the 3rd, i almost always get what i request, and if not people are always looking for shifts. I do predominantly nights as it works better with my family life, and pick up extras a few times a month. I found when i was in smaller units/wards and was allocated my off duty the balance was much harder, but now i can chose its definitely manageable. Have a look around for larger departments that offer self rostering.

I am part time , I have set days , two 12hr shifts or two night shifts which are also 12hr

Nursery costs £500 a month for those two days ,
Afterschool childminder for the other is around £150 a month

Keep thinking about doing something else when they are both at school , I just don't know what.

My ex sil worked fri, sat, sun nights, mil had dc on Fridays and went to nursery on Mondays. Worked for them and it was premium pay because nobody wanted those shifts. Once they got to school age she switched to the haematology outpatients, mon-fri daytime only
