Bank Hols Dinner

Husband announces that he wants to make something for dinner tonight. Buttermilk Chicken Tenders with homemade Hot Sauce. Yeah, sounds nice… Except, don’t you need to marinade, prep etc? What will we have with it? If I ask any questions, it’s “oh, you never want to try anything new!”

No. I don’t want to be waiting all night for something that can easily be done ready-made at the butchers. Then have to clean every pot in the kitchen. Plus deal with all of the “special” ingredients (most of which are in the cupboard already). I like him cooking, but please just bung on a chilli?

I don't get the problem. Buttermilk chicken tenders + hot sauce isn't the world's quickest meal, but he's hardly suggesting ramen, every element of which would be homemade.

Gowlett · 27/10/2024 12:40

You’re right, SummaLuvin. It will probably be lovely!
Bank Holiday tomorrow, where I live, and I just want an easy weekend. Maybe I could just get in with cleaning the house while he’s in the kitchen. And there might be some fur tomorrow, too! He’s going to the supermarket, I shouldn’t be moaning…

What's the problem? He wants to cook and asks you if it something you fancy. At no point I see him suggesting you do any washing up or "deal with special ingredients" (whatever it means)

Gowlett · 27/10/2024 12:43

It’s more the buying of everything, instead of looking in the cupboard, Catza. But, yeah, he can do the washing up!

"sounds good, but check what we already have in the cupboard before you go to the supermarket".

sonofrageandlove · 27/10/2024 12:46

Sounds great! I’m sure lots of people on here would love their husbands to make that kind of effort.

Gowlett · 27/10/2024 12:49

You’re all right, of course. It will be delicious!
I’ll just keep out of the kitchen, as it will be full Gordon Ramsay… DH is actually quite a good cook, to be fair.

It's not a bank holiday?

It's not a bank holiday?

It is where the OP lives.

Gowlett · 27/10/2024 13:00

Tulip8, it is, tomorrow, where I live.

My DH does this and it often means going out getting expensive ingredients and as you say using every pot! I've learnt to let him get on with it and at least it's a meal I don't need to think up or cook.

Gowlett · 27/10/2024 13:16

Roserunner, yes, that’s what I mean. He can just get on with it, as I hadn’t thought of anything for dinner & now I don’t have to!

Just went to make tea. He’s bought some chicken breasts in LIDL & stirred a bit of soy sauce, hot sauce, brown sugar & garlic in a bowl. So, he’s baking the chicken & pouring that over.

Not quite the Buttermilk Chicken Tenders in a Sticky House Hot Sauce (which we had at a restaurant last week) that he was going for… But still, I won’t have to clean up any mess!

OP posts:
Gowlett · 27/10/2024 17:34

Anyway, it will be nice & I’ll make the sides!
