OOH or aibu to wait - coil

Name changed as I've mentioned this to some friends..

I had a coil inserted during my C-section 7 months ago. Was called back to have the strings trimmed 6 weeks later as they don't do it at the time because they are unsure of the exact length they should be as your uterus contracts. When I went for my appointment - no strings were visible but the coil was in place during a scan to check so she said to leave and it would just make getting it out a little trickier but to cross that bridge when we come to it. I then had a smear 4m pp and again still no strings. Fast forward to last week and on Thursday I had some cramping and when I had check there was something very small coming out of my cervix.. I made a gp appointment for Friday who could not see what I was talking about during an exam and sent me over to gynae at the hospital who again could not see and suggested I was feeling the tip of my cervix - which of course I knew I wasn't as it's not made of pointy wire.... anyway she made me think I was mistaken and gave me some antibiotics as ive been having some pain. Roll on last night and now both of my coil strings are out and hanging out of my vagina by about 10cm down my leg - tmi I know! It must have been them beginning to make there way out on Thursday / Friday as I suspected! My question is should I ring the ooh now to take a look and make sure all is ok or wait for GP on Monday (if I can get an appointment) I'm having very mild cramping but that's been par for the course with the coil anyway and I'm kind of worried the strings are going to snag on my underwear and pull the coil out which is making me feel quite sick! What would you do in my situation?

I'm no medical person but I'd sterilise sharp scissors and cut off the excess hanging outside your vulva. Then they cam be trimmed properly by medical professional

Thanks - I had thought about doing this but the strings are almost like wire? I was worried I would leave a sharp edge that would be more uncomfortable although I suppose that's what the dr would be doing anyway so maybe that's the best call!

I’d probably call OOH in your shoes. I’d also be a bit worried the coil might not be in the right place any more. It might just be that the threads have finally come down but if the coil has also slipped out of place it won’t be effective, and if you’ve had sex in the last 7 days or so you won’t be protected. It might be worth thinking about emergency contraception if you need it.
