hi everybody
worried about my 21 M DD . She is on track with everything and her receptive language is good . She understands simple commands and uses gestures point , wave and clap . She is engaging and wants us to participate in her world . Imitates everything and look us in the eye but occasionally she does side glancing like in this pic .

She rotates her wrists and ankles when excited, always done it and does side glancing at times
I have told it is 100 % sign of autism . I have taken her to the HV and GP and said it is not a worry .
any other toddlers did it and then outgrew it ?

Nothing is 100% sign of autism, autism isn't that easy to diagnose.
Almost every sign of autism is something non-autistic children sometimes do or do to some extent.

Catza · 26/10/2024 18:29

There is no picture so I don't know exactly what you mean but I agree with the PP. Nothing in isolation is a sign of autism, let alone a 100% definitive sign.
Side glancing sounds like something most people do and professionals seem unconcerned.

Agreed, there is no one "definitive" thing especially this young.

So you have a choice, either forget about it or do a bit of reading up about the subject.

Sparklesocks · 26/10/2024 18:33

There is no singular trait/behaviour that means autism and so it’s indisputable, it’s not that simple.

Well, this is how almost every person would look at something to their side before turning their head. I am not sure what the concern is.

That’s what I thought too and she only does when turning her head

Then I don't understand what you are worried about. If someone said something to you, it doesn't mean you need to take it as a gospel and start worrying unnecessarily.

Scarydinosaurs · 26/10/2024 18:43

Has someone said this to you and now you’re worried? It isn’t a sign of autism, let alone a 100% one.

50shadedofmagnolia · 26/10/2024 18:53

I've got two autistic children and neither one looks at people like that but they do side eye electronic devices.
If that's your only concern I wouldn't worry x
