To take dd to out of hours with this rash?

Started last night, v itchy, all over torso - back and front, arms and lesser on face/ears. Nothing below hips

Not sure if it's allergic reaction (no idea as to what) stress or something more serious

Am googling and 111 too, but sometimes someone on here has personal experience!

I developed one to washing liquid out of nowhere … had never had it before. Have you tried anti-histamine tablets / cream ?

Holidaysarecomingocthalfterm · 26/10/2024 16:50

I would try a pharmacy first.

ChristmasisinManchester · 26/10/2024 16:52

I wouldn’t. It looks like urticaria - hives

take piriton. Can be caused by allergic reaction to washing powder, virus, food etc.

any sign of swelling on face or mouth (or itchiness in mouth) etc 999. But my son regularly gets this as a viral rash.

keep cool soft layers over it

Ohfuckrucksack · 26/10/2024 16:55

If otherwise well, I'd try antihistamines first - or as previously mentioned, a pharmacist would be able to assess.

ToyFace · 26/10/2024 16:56

How old is she and how long has she been having this rash? Have you tried an anti histamine? If yes, then I'd probably take her to the out of hours. It's probably nothing but I'd be concerned because it seems to be her entire body almost

Is it bumpy like sandpaper?

Because it looks a bit like Scarlet Fever to me.

jackstini · 26/10/2024 16:57

Thanks all

She's had antihistamines and applied Savlon for now and is in a loose T-shirt

Good idea re pharmacy. I think we have one open for 1 hour tomorrow

Possibly washing liquid - Tesco have changed the fragrance we usually have! - good call to check

@MargaretThursday
Yes it is very bumpy on her arms, less so on her back, but feels hotter there

@ToyFace she's 18 and it started yesterday but has got worse. She took antihistamine yesterday too

@jackstini

I'd ask the pharmacy about scarlet fever then. They may want to give antibiotics for it. My dc didn't, but they weren't really unwell other than having a rash and a slight temperature. If it hadn't been going round preschool, I'd never have thought it was anything other than a viral rash.

Lulubellamozarella · 26/10/2024 17:03

Agree with others who have said it looks like hives. My DD used to get it often and it was hot and itchy and bumpy just like this. Keep using the antihistamines but take her to a pharmacy if you can and see if they can maybe give you something a little better over the counter.

Stopcoughing · 26/10/2024 17:04

Bumpy red rash a bit like sandpaper could be scarlet fever? Has she got a sore throat or anything. It's really important to get antibiotics if it is. If you've tried antihistamines and they aren't working I'd take her to out of hours

Ring 111

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 26/10/2024 17:14

DD (15) had something v similar a month or so ago. We spoke to a paramedic via 111 who said probably just hives, continue treating with antihistamine, keep cool and see how it went. After about 72 hours in total it went away.

It did respond throughout to antihistamines although earlier on (using loratidine) would recede a but and then come back. 111 recommended trying a brand called Allevia which is a different drug and it did seem to be more effective.

jackstini · 26/10/2024 17:18

@Stopcoughing - she had a sore throat earlier in the week, but was recovering from tonsillitis the week before (whole other issue - 9 times in 18 months so unfortunately has had antibiotics a lot more that usual)

She's asleep now but found a pharmacy open late so going to take her after she's had a nap (was working from 6am)
