Micro needling for a 17 year old Manchester

dinomirror · 26/10/2024 08:11

Anyone know any places that would do microneedling for a 17 year old in the Manchester area? Acne scars really getting her down but most are 18 plus ( she turns 17 in two weeks)

If the minimum age is 18 perhaps it is for a reason?

She turns 17 in two weeks , not 18, so would need to wait a year. Her self- esteem is getting lower and lower with the scars (which are quite severe tbh) just thought to ask if there is any that would take her

Get some silicone gel cream or sheets from Boots or online
Less invasive than micrneedling and can be used under 18

Sorry I realised my mistake and edited just before you replied. The scars do sound hard to live with.

Is the silicone gel/sheets effective? Which one is better for redness?

@dinomirror read the article below and please understand why your 17 year old cant have it

That could happen at any age tho? Although yes i do take your point that shes underage

I have a lovely friend who is a skincare specialist. I asked her- her reply is below:

I would suggest using a retinol serum. I'd recommend using medik8 crystal retinal 3, using two nights a week, eg Tues and Friday on cleansed skin at night. Gradually build this up so using every night or other night as the skin tolerates over 6 weeks. Move up to the next strength (6) and introduce gradually. A cheaper option is the Ordinary. LED light is also good. Would recommend a wearable one from current body or the facelite.

Yes it can happen at any age but someone who is willing to break the law is more likely to be poorly trained and unlikely to properly sterilise the equipment

Has she used tretinoin and/or hydroquinone yet? They are very effective

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 26/10/2024 09:13

I had post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, I got rid of it with retinol from the ordinary at night, dermalogica dark spot serum in the mornings (I buy sample sachets on eBay it’s £90 a bottle) and sunblock daily as UV exposure makes it worse even in the winter.

No , but we've been told that there's no point in wasting time for such surface level things? (Although the majority of her scars aren't pitted , just very red)

Can GP prescribe these?

OP posts:
Spondoolies · 26/10/2024 09:36

Yes but you are better off using Dermatica or Skin & submit photos of the skin and they advise on the best formula. I was on roaccutane for my acne as it was that bad, then followed it up with tretinoin (GP prescribed) and then hydroquinone from Dermatica which is amazing for pigmentation and scarring. I have tried laser before but these creams are fab and very effective in my opinion.

Spondoolies · 26/10/2024 09:37

And cheaper 🙂

FatNSassy · 26/10/2024 09:40

Probably not a good idea for your daughter but I bought a Dr Pen device (from Amazon) for home use and I've been extremely happy with the results. I use it monthly and don't go too deep. It's improved my pores no end.

The total cost was about the price of one treatment in a clinic and there are lots of YouTube tutorials showing how to use it.

dinomirror · 26/10/2024 09:40

Thanks! Shes actually ordered some hydroquinone from a korean brand apparently? So we will give that a go and maybe look at gp for tret until 18

OP posts:
Spondoolies · 26/10/2024 10:28

Just make sure she is aware that the hydroquinone will peel the skin so use sparingly and if she’s got any events coming up (that she doesn’t want peeling skin for) to stop using it a couple of weeks before. Also SPF is essential when using it.

Go and see a proper dermatologist who will recommend good products / care (product wise: Obagi, Skinceuticals and Medik8) before she turns 18
