To be annoyed at the vet?

Aibu to think the vet I just saw was a bit rude?
So long story short when I got my dog I registered her to a vets4pets local to me but they weren't taking on clients so I had to go and register her else where as she needed her puppy jabs. A few weeks later the V4P called and said they could take me on now and I said I've registered else where but would like to register her with you (vets4pets) as it's closer to me and they said no problem.

Took her in today as she was up all night with an obvious ear infection and wanted to get her seen asap and I know the other vets have limited appointments on Fridays&close over the weekend but vers4pets open Saturdays too so just incase she couldn't be seen today I potentially could get in tomo. They luckily offered me 3 appointment times for today and I gladly accepted one.

When I went into the room with the vet he immediately told me I shouldn't be registered with two vets and I'm lucky he won't be charging me for an emergency appointment because he's missed his lunch now. Obviously I had no idea why this was an issue as nothing was mentioned when booking appt with reception. He said you need to make up your mind on the practice you want because we're busy too not just your other vets. I don't see why this is an issue, they still took 58 quid and the reception obviously had the appointment to give me it??? It's not like my dog has any history besides her jabs. I just don't understand why he was so rude about an appointment I was given & paid for?? Hangry ?

Rude.
I would stick with the other vet if that's his attitude, and I would review it accordingly.
It's not your fault his secretary booked it over his lunch

JubileeJuice · 25/10/2024 14:50

Vets 4 Pets are awful.

Colalola · 25/10/2024 14:53

@WillimNot @JubileeJuice agreed! The other vets is a bit harder to get an appointment with but I won't be going back to V4P that's for sure.

Never use V4P, they are all about the money and don't care about the animals.

IBlameTheDog · 25/10/2024 15:00

V4P nearly killed my dog when she went in for a routine op. They didn't monitor her carefully post anaesthetic and she ended up inhaling her own vomit and has been left with life long lung damage.

I wouldn't set foot in there again. They knew they'd done wrong and lied and denied everything.

Agree with everyone else, Vets 4 pets diagnosed my old dog with a tooth problem .£300 later they removed his tooth no better ! Got a second vet .He had mouth cancer!

Vets 4 Pets are awful.

Absolutely not! My vet is amazing and I’ve never had a problem! And actually he was right, her dog is registered with another practice and by going to him she was trusting them as an emergency vet!

Meredithwho · 19/02/2025 17:04

Each vets4pets is owned by a different person so you can’t tar them all with the same brush.

He is right though, it isn’t ideal to be registered with 2 different vets. Your pup could have already been seen for this issue or another issue and it is important that vets know about any meds your pet may or may not be on. Not all owners will be honest and say oh yes there’s this issue and this medication etc. He wasn’t to know, other than your word, that there isn’t any history.

GoldenGumballs · 19/02/2025 17:08

Yeah really rude, you can go to any vet you want if it’s urgent. He should just do his job as he’s taking your money. Most important thing is to get them to send the history of treatment back to the vets you settle on.

DimplesToadfoot · 19/02/2025 17:33

I despise Vets4Pets and kick myself that I was ever a customer of theirs

I was with V4P until covid and lockdown, they refused to see a bunny of mine as I had to shield and they had "to protect themselves from me" they refused to give me a prescription without seeing him and wouldn't let anyone else take him to them in case the bunny and box were carrying covid germs on them. I managed to get him seen by a different vet and it turned out my bunny had pneumonia and would have died. Obviously I've stayed with the practice that did see us.

I've since been barred from every V4P within a 30mile radius as I dared to ask them why they were still cropping ears after I saw a pup with it's ears bandaged and splinted. Apparently it's acceptable as its "for health grounds as floppy ears trap dirt and infection" But how dare I question them.

You do wise sticking with the vets that did see your pup when you needed them

Hufflemuff · 19/02/2025 17:37

What a wanker.

I'd call up and mention the encounter. It might be a locum vet there as it was a Saturday and you may never see them again!

I complained about one of the vets at my cats practice and they booked me with another vet who was lovely. Now when I book I ask for Danny instead of Matthew and its never an issue, I don't have to retell the whole saga each time.

PeapodMcgee · 19/02/2025 17:46

V4P Penzance are criminal. Injured my rescue cat during spay surgery (a few days before I adopted) and totally covered it up. Kidney had to be removed.

FindusMakesPancakes · 19/02/2025 18:13

Under the RCVS Code of Conduct, vets are instructed that they must always establish if an animal is under the care of another vet. And if so, to contact that vet for case history. If a client refuses this, vets are meant to decline to see the patient. The code is full of complex guidance on this to ensure adherence to GDPR and how to handle the situation where a client moves between clinics.
While the delivery of the message here may have been inadequate, the principle he was trying to explain was correct.

neilyoungismyhero · 19/02/2025 18:20

You can now be registered with more than 1 vet so yes he was very rude.
