People who wear masks incorrectly

Why do some people still wear disposable masks just on their chins when in shops? Went on a bus with a man who wore one and just happened to be we both caught the same bus back and he was still wearing mask on chin

Either wear the mask PROPERLY - mouth and nose covered or like 99,9% don’t bother.

When masks were compulsory, I often see people wearing those nasty blue disposable masks and said they can't breathe in them as they had nose above it. Why didn't they test out a different kind?

I struggle with those masks and had to get authorisation from a senior doctor to wear my own when I had a colonoscopy about 2.5 years ago as the hospital demanded that I wear that type.

That was it. They couldn't breathe in them. But the WHOLE IDEA of the mask is that you have to breathe THROUGH IT, otherwise what do they think the mask is doing? Unless they only ever breathe through their mouths...and, on that, I make no judgement.

It's just weird behaviour. Like carrying an umbrella when it's raining and not putting it up.

Have I slipped through a time warp?

It's rather nostalgic here

How about stopping judging people?
I wear one in certain places but not in others as I have cancer. I will take it off when the risk is lower.

I was hospitalised with covid 6 weeks ago in isolation. Critical

If someone is wearing a mask incorrectly it shows that they have been wearing them elsewhere. It has nothing to do with you

Didimum · 25/10/2024 16:36

Hmm. Well if they don’t actually have to wear masks at all they are entitled to wear their masks however they like. Makes no difference.

SpiderDijon · 25/10/2024 16:53

Aaaaah the classic chin diaper

I had to check the date on the OP
I thought it was a zombie! 😆

I very rarely see anyone with a mask where I live, but I work in a pub and there was a woman with one just hanging off one ear the other day. She came to the bar and ordered and walked around the pub, and I did wonder what was the point of it.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 25/10/2024 17:33

It's probably so they can pop it up over their face if they feel somewhere becomes uncomfortably busy or someone is coughing nearby.

I wore one on a train journey last year, after picking Covid up on the plane on my previous trip. Put it on when I got on the train as it was very busy, but dropped it down as people got off. Actually it was brilliant as nobody chose to sit by me - I'm assuming cos of the mask anyway.

AlannaOfTrebond · 25/10/2024 17:58

I'm immunosuppressed so do still wear a mask sometimes if I'm somewhere busy and have been known to hang it off one ear between shops for example before putting it back on.

What I have never done and never will do is wear it under my nose. If you are going to wear a mask, bloody wear it properly. And to those saying that offenders probably just pull it up when they get near people, I have never seen anyone wearing their mask under their nose move it upwards. Back when masks were compulsory I always wondered whether offenders were selfish or just mind blowingly thick.

To the pp who won't talk to someone wearing a mask (unless it's a dentist or nail technician), thank you for saving me the bother of having to converse with an idiot.

tuvamoodyson · 25/10/2024 18:03

Why would you put it on and off? You’re touching things eg handrails, door handles, supermarket trolleys, items in shops and then the mask, putting it on/off! It makes absolutely no sense! When we were wearing them, we were asked to touch them as little as possible….

Cynic17 · 25/10/2024 18:15

People who wear masks at all are clearly deluded. The fact that some also wear them incorrectly merely demonstrates that people will always do whatever they want, regardless of the fact that there is not a single, justifiable reason for them to do so.

I remember going to a drop in blood test clinic at my hospital during the time when you still had to wear a mask in hospitals.

A woman was in the waiting area was wearing her mask nose exposed and the nurse kindly asked the woman to put her mask on properly. As nasal droplets can drop into the mask and you breathe those in.

Last month I went on holiday and the couple on the same row as me on both flights just wore a masks on their chins. Never once I saw them on the planes or elsewhere (shuttle bus, passport control) with their masks on. What was the purpose on chin masks?

Still there is a couple where I live who wear masks outside and they have a convertible car, both in the car, roof down and wearing masks. Seen other people walking by shaking their heads.

As the whole point of driving a convertible car, roof down is to embrace the fresh air.

Don't get why people still wear disposable gloves when shopping. A woman got her very grubby disposable gloves from her coat pockets when was going to get a trolley. Disposable gloves are changed between every patient in hospitals and other medical places (or more often if they are dealing with a messy task).

Customers touch hundreds of items with the same gloves. Love to do a swab on these woman's gloves and put them in a petri dish with a culture and see how disgusting they are compared to cleanish bare hands.

Fucking hell. Was there not enough mask moaning when they were compulsory?

Get over it.

Ncocta · 25/10/2024 20:25

Seriously it’s none of your business if someone wants to wear gloves or a mask. Maybe they are immunocompromised or have anxiety and just wearing the mask or gloves helps them overcome things.

In some countries, wearing a mask when you are sick for example is a sign of respect. Masks and gloves do work and prevent spreading of diseases. I agree there isn’t any point of wearing the mask on your chin but it’s none of my business how people dress.

Whether you wear it or not is a personal choice - no on should be judged on it at all.
