Teenager sat outside window!

wide awake disturbed and upset…

my toddler came running into our bedroom about an hour ago, and to take him back to his own room he needed some settling down he was quite upset.

in his room I saw flashing lights from outside. Not sure if that’s what woke him but it was similar to flashes of lightening. When I looked out the window, two people were sat right underneath his window on their phones! We have a shed roof underneath which is shared with the neighbour as it’s a terraced house. I’m guessing they sat on our side because there’s bushes on theirs.

OH went out to tell them they’d woken up a toddler and they apologised and moved. Looked like teenagers and their window was wide open so clearly they’d climbed out of there.

Would I be acting OTT to talk to the neighbour again about it or even seek some legal advice? I’m so disturbed at the idea of a stranger sat outside my child’s window, I can’t sleep 😢 I do have some past trauma around an ex partner who used to loiter outside my house and bang on the windows so this may be clouding my judgement. OH moving them on may be enough?

They moved and apologised.

Leave it be unless it happens again.

This.

If they're halfway decent they won't do it again now they know they've woken a little kid sleeping upstairs.

Ya I'd be a bit freaked out if I found strangers sitting on my shed roof in my back garden tbh. How did they leave, back through your neighbours window?! I know teenagers are a bit heedless, but I can't imagine going over to my friends house, climbing out their bedroom window and scooting over the shed roof to sit outside the neighbours bedroom window, v strange but teens are a alien breed to me now ( even though I live with one, I'm endlessly confused thinking 'but WHY would you......' 😄)
It's unlikely to happen again though OP now that it's been pointed out to them how weird it is, let it go for now

I can see why it alarmed you initially, I wouldn't like it either but they apologised and moved on when you asked them to and you've established they weren't casing the joint so I don't think any further action is necessary.

I'd talk to the neighbour, would not seek legal advice.
Could you not put something up there to stop anyone sitting there.
