Is anyone else wound up by the quality of items some people are selling these days? I see soooooomany people selling stuff thats fit for the bin. Some of it is so bad that I wouldn’t give it to away for free because I feel it would be disrespectful to the person receiving it.

I see it alot with baby / kids stuff, more so with expensive brands. People seem to think because it’s a big brandname name such as claude & co or organic zoo that they can charge £30 for a bobbled stained sleep suit or £250 for a dirty faded baby carrier that retails at £350 new.

the surprising thing is,is that people appear to be buying these items. Can someone who has bought/sold these kinds of things enlighten me to whats going on?

So true, usually things some charity shops would send to the rag man.

I wonder if some things could be money laundering though… eBay has items which have ridiculous prices on them that a definite money laundering, like Disney VHS tapes for hundreds listed as ‘rare’.

EmJA85 · 24/10/2024 23:29

Oh I didn’t think of money laundering, good point! I suspect the baby carriers etc could be that but I feel with the clothes people probably splashed out with the intent to sell afterwards , then their baby wears them to death to get the moneys worth but yet they still try to sell them on and people are a sucker for a brand name

Yes really pissing me off. Try and use Vinted for toys as much as possible for DD. Wanting to by her a fisher price farm set for Christmas, can be found new on amazon for £33. On Vinted I couldn’t see a single one which had all the pieces, and they were all between £20-£25, add on buyer protection and postage and it’s nearly the same price as new. The irony is our local children’s charity shop don’t accept toys with bits missing.

People are just trying to make money wherever they can and if someone wants to buy their stuff then that's up to them. Who are we to judge.

TheBeesKnee · 24/10/2024 23:57

Yes it's disappointing. 2 years ago I was pregnant with my first and got lots of bargain bundles on Vinted. Now a bundle is 3 Primark items costing £5 🙄 after fees and postage I don't bother.

Lots of poor quality things listed as "very good" too, rendering the filtering system useless.

I've put yabu because just don't buy it then? Why get wound up? Is it coz someone might actually pay for that? Personally I just think good for them if they can sell it for that.
I sell all my baby clothes for a £1 and if they take longer than a couple of weeks to sell I just donate them. I'm poor but I can't be bothered with the hassle of trying to get more money.
But this how people get rich isn't it? Being bothered to try and get top profit? Selling things for far more than they are worth?
Happens on a much larger scale than Facebook and vinted.

Yeah I totally understand selling on there in general, most people are like you and sell pretty decent stuff for a low price, that’s great, it’s better for the environment too. I buy most of my baby clothes on there.

my issue is with the people selling complete and utter crap, stuff that wouldn’t be accepted by a charity shop or I suspect even a baby bank

i do agree with your point, there are worse things going on and who am I to blame them for trying to make a bit of cash. People out there seem to be willing to buy it for some reason. I suppose it’s up to the buyer to cross check with the current retail prices

it just doesn’t align with how I am as a person I suppose. I’m not in a good financial state myself and I wouldn’t do it , I suspect people selling Claude and co etc aren’t exactly strapped for cash
