Would you expect primary school to tell you if your Reception child had been bitten on shoulder and had feet stamped on?

I'm not sure.

This seems to have happened a week ago or maybe 2.

I only found out because the mother apologised for her son's behaviour a saying he's never bitten before etc. and he's having a kindness marble jar at school and home (initiated by school for this incident), so they know it happened.
DS then said he had also stamped on his feet at the same time.

Now obviously this bite left no makes etc and DS never mentioned it. And I definitely wouldn't expect school to say who did it, but... should I have been told?

I really know

I'm so sorry this happened to your son.
Of course you should have been informed.

I would say you should have been told. When dd was little I would be told if she had a bump or accident. Also if done by another child I would have expected them to tell you it happened and that the issue was being dealt with/they would watch to prevent it happening again. You son may not have said, but a lot of little ones would tell the parents and then they would naturally wonder why they hadn't been told. Slightly older in primary then maybe not.

It was probably dealt with in school. It obviously wasn’t a full bite as it left no mark. It also didn’t bother your child much as they didn’t tell you. There are so many incidents every day at school I really don’t think schools need, or have time, to tell parents unless it’s a significant injury or incident.

My son's school called me when he bit another child and they said "because it's a bite we have to let you know" so I'd have thought it was the same that they have to inform the "victim" too!

Zozo1990 · 24/10/2024 23:24

They should have informed you.

Yes they probably should have told you but maybe they saw that there was no mark and decided not to, or it could have just been a mistake that they forgot to mention it
