AIBU to think I should be able to find a cleaner to do this small job for less than £300

Or am I naive?

My parents are limited in what they can do. I go around their house and keep it tidy-ish by doing 2 or so hours of cleaning a week.

I just need someone to go deep clean their kitchen floor and grout and deep clean the wc. I am pregnant and haven’t got it in me. I also want to stay away from the fumes.

Someone quoted me £500. We are in Home Counties

To clean one floor and one loo?? That's insane.

Calour · 24/10/2024 16:50

Kitchen is an L shape extension - 10 by 10’ & 12’ by 10’

They don't want the job. Most cleaners or cleaning companies don't find one-off jobs attractive, especially something as small as cleaning a floor and toilet. Keep trying and you'll probably find someone, but it will be more expensive than it would be if it were a regular thing.

Is the house remote? You need to think of it in terms of travel time plus time spent plus materials.

Cleaners are about £40 for 2 hours round here but live locally.

A deep clean of a kitchen can involve removing everything from a cupboard and cleaning it and putting it back, cleaning all the cupboard tops, in the oven, the extractor grills, etc. I'd say 3 hours for a reasonable job. And max another 1.5 for the bathroom unless it also has tond of cupboards.

So if you don't like in the middle of nowhere id think £100 reasonable.

£150 here ( West Yorkshire) for a 3 bed deep clean.. with two bathrooms.
Including skirtings.. paint work.. windows etc.

Sillysausage76 · 24/10/2024 16:58

How dirty is it? Is the toilet wc easy to access? I would personally get a couple more quotes, but it their using specialised equipment it would be more expensive

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 24/10/2024 16:59

It sounds a lot unless the job is harder than you've made it sound. Grout - is that floor or wall tiles? How big an area? How dirty?

PeloMom · 24/10/2024 16:59

How many quotes do you have? Sounds very high.

Changingplace · 24/10/2024 16:59

That’s crazy, have you only had one quote? Maybe they don’t want a one off job, would it be worth while considering if it’s better to have a regular cleaner going in than you doing it?

House is in a very large town.

I don’t want the whole kitchen deep cleaned. The cupboards, cooker and sink etc are clean as my mum is able to clean those no problem. Just the floor and grout in the kitchen and wc need a very good scrub which my mum and dad can’t manage.

I’ve provided sq footage above for kitchen :)

WC is standing room only - has a toilet and small sink in it

The tiles are pretty clean (I steam mop once a week) but the grout is scruffy.

At first I thought you meant you wanted someone to scrape out the old bathroom sealant and reapply it. But that’s not something a cleaner would do… Yet also wouldn’t cost £500!!!

daisychain01 · 24/10/2024 17:36

I would just keep the surfaces clean. The grout doesn't have to be perfect, why bother? As long as it's kept hygienic, that's the main thing.

anything that's a "deep clean" is a rip off anyway, it's just a good quality clean with some zeros added.

I bought this off Amazon for floor scrubbing recently. Haven’t had a chance to use it yet but might be something to consider?

Milton Keynes? You need to hire a one man band type of cleaner and put them on a rolling contract for 2 hours a week. That first session ask them to deep clean the floors.

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 24/10/2024 20:08

It does seem ridiculously expensive. I agree with a PP suggesting get a regular cleaner and ask them to keep going week by week until it’s all clean.

Crazy!

Pay £50 a week for 4 hours, 5 bed detached, 3 en-suites, and a downstairs toilet.
