Sun lounger wankers

We're at a beautiful five star Canaries hotel for the second October half term in a row. It's pretty perfect for our family.

Never had a problem with sun loungers before - people have always pottered down after a leisurely breakfast from 10am onwards.

Until a couple of days ago, when big families began reserving six or so prime sunbeds in a row first thing and then not using them until after midday - when maybe two people out of six come down to the pool. It's nearly midday and I'm looking at a front row of empty sunbeds and people wandering around with towels unable to find any!

DP is fuming and wants to take pics and complain to the manager. I'm thinking of posting pics and a review on TripAdvisor - it feels a bit mean as the hotel is perfect in every other way and the staff so lovely but surely it's their job to police these wankers? AIBU?

I'm thinking of posting pics and a review on TripAdvisor orrrrrr you could just tell a member of staff that’s there right now!

I don't really feel it's my problem to sort out tho? The staff have eyes!

We have loungers as DD, 5, is an early bird. But not seen anyone move towels and I understand this - not everyone wants a row on holiday! I think it's the hotel's responsibility?

Ask the hotel. If they don’t respond just move them.

People saying I have loungers so what's the problem, you are right of course. I've been telling myself this but DP who is a bit of a grumpy old man has been in my ear about it for two days!

Anyway I don't know if this hotel (it's in Tenerife) has been reading my post but today the pool boys have been removing towels. Seems like it's the busiest day so far.

They've just removed towels from the prime row of six beds for three separate couples, just waiting for the wanker family to come down now and look for their towels Grin

Sadly the other family of six came down to find their beds waiting at midday. DP is planning to nick their spot in the morning just to piss them off. Will hold off the review for now and order a pina colada, I promise I'm not letting it ruin my holiday!

And sorry for the person who thought it was actually about wanking and was disappointed lol

I assume that other people must have complained.

Please let us know what happens when the wanker family come down.

Agreed. It's not as though sun lounger issues will be news to management - they are actively choosing to ignore it.

Have to praise the hotel on this one - the pool boys have been much more on it today. I think cause the hotel has suddenly got much more busy so the beds are needed.

They've been removing towels and random bottles of suncream used to reserve beds as people ask for them.

DP complained about the front row wankers who reserved the best six beds at 8.30 again (and are never on their beds until midday when two of their party come down). The pool boy said his boss wouldn't let him remove their stuff and he was very frustrated about it.

But their stuff was then removed at midday and the woman came down soon after and began kicking off. The pool boys made them a new front row in a vastly inferior place, with non padded sun loungers.

She the. brought her party of six down to express their disdain at the beds (never seen all six down before 3.30pm!) and then they fucked off for lunch. So their new beds haven't being used either and they shouldn't have been pandered to. But glad we've annoyed them as they are proper sunbed wankers!

Pick them up and throw them in the pool.

Fizzballs · 25/10/2024 13:02

I don't agree it's not fair to leave a review before rasing it with the hotel. In a 5 star hotel they should be anticipating their guests needs and they can see there's an issue as well as OP can.

I avoid cheaper hotels for this reason.

Shityshitybangbang · 25/10/2024 13:31

The last time I was abroad, I witnessed a cheeky fuckery of a family reserve 5 sun loungers right next to the pool. But they also reserved the same amount of sun loungers in the shade area. The family sat in the ones under the shade. As it was roasting. Folk were wandering about looking for sun loungers as it was peak season. I really couldn’t believe how totally rude this was. I wish now I’d called them out or complained.

Pineapplewaves · 25/10/2024 13:38

The people who can't find a sun bed should go and speak to the lifeguard, hotels often have extra sun beds stacked up out of sight (especially off peak season when they don't need so many) and life guards are usually happy to go and get some. If the lifeguard can't help they need to visit Reception and speak to the Manager.

Your DP needs to relax and enjoy his holiday, this isn't his problem if you all have sun beds! Sounds like your DP bored if he's getting this worked up about something that isn't affecting him personally.

Cornercandy · 25/10/2024 13:44

I would not post about this on TA as it’s just a handful of families that do this. These families would do the same regardless of hotel.

Have a word with a receptionist who can pass it onto reception manager or pool manager. They may get patrols and remove towels if not attended within a period of say an hour

pictoosh · 25/10/2024 14:07

Ugh, it's such a disgustingly selfish way to behave. Glad they've been told no.
I don't know how people have the brass neck.

Flossflower · 25/10/2024 14:09

I would not get up early to reserve sun loungers on holiday and I wouldn’t leave towels on ones I have left. I usually just ask the attendants with a tip in my hand ( discreetly but not invisible) and when they find me some I give them the tip. This often involves moving someone else’s stuff.

LlamaLoopy · 30/10/2024 20:26

What’s the hotel policy - if they don’t have one nothing they or anyone else can do!
