To be panicking and crying about having a lletz procedure

I had an abnormal smear hpv and cin2/3 and a colposcopy and am booked in for a Lletz procedure tomorrow. I am panicking so badly. I am worried I have cancer or the procedure will damage my cervix. I'm only 29 and desperately want kids. Please does anyone have any words of encouraging or experiences. I've never been so scared in all my life.

A lady I know had this done and it did have to remove part of her cervix. A few years later she fell pregnant with twins and had a cervical stitch put in to be removed just prior to giving birth. Her two previous babies were premature and in NICU for weeks.
Her twins have just turned 5. Absolute success story. They came at full term naturally.

I found the procedure itself uncomfortable but not painful because of the anaesthetic. In fact it went a lot better than the previous visit which was the biopsy. However I felt very faint afterwards, it must have been the local anaesthetic and I was on my own and couldn't walk. So please have someone there or to collect you.

Good luck, OP. I've not had kids but have had one attempt at a LLETZ and one subsequent procedure. If everything the lovely women on this thread have said haven't reassured you, if you're REALLY nervous you can do what I did and have a general anaesthetic. Best to get it done.

I had a lletz when I was 29, no cancers or abnormal smears since and now I have a baby!

I had CIN 2 and 3 so had a LLETZ procedure in 2020, it wasn’t cancer and I’ve had no problems since. I was quite worried before but it actually wasn't as bad as I expected.

One thing I remember was they gave me some adrenaline and it made me feel like my heart was going too fast which scared me. When I said this to the dr, they said it’s normal to feel like that immediately after it’s given. It only lasted for a minute max so if the same happens to you - don’t worry. I wish someone had told me before!

I had a LLETZ 5 months post partum after having DS1. My period had come back for the first time the day before 😬 honestly it was all fine, no issues at all and went on to have two more children. Only difference was they gave me extra scans at 16 weeks to check the length of my cervix.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 24/10/2024 01:54

I had the procedure not long after my dd was born she's 12 now and it was fine! The worst bit for me was my lovely friend came came along and actually came in the room to watch on the screens and ask questions 🤣 she has gone on to be a paramedic technician though so I will let her off! I've since had another child and not had any other issues. You'll be fine 😀

I've had this treatment. It was over in less than twenty minutes.

Thank you. I'm going in a few hours and will update.

You'll be grand, it's scary because you don't know what to expect but it'll be over and done with in a flash. xx

I had a LLETZ when I was 28. It was for CIN3 and they removed about a centimeter of cervix. I had to have it under general anaesthetic because of where the CIN was on my cervix.

That was 10 years ago, and I've had clear smear tests again ever since then. I've also had two healthy pregnancies and babies. I got a special scan to check my cervix length in pregnancy, and it was fine and within normal range.

I can honestly say it was all really straightforward, and I'm glad the CIN was caught before it could progress.

You’ll be totally fine - good luck 😊. I had mine about 12 years ago and I’ve had a normal pregnancy since with no issues from it and was straight back to 3 yearly smears after the six month check despite it being CIN3 and have had no reoccurrences.

Personally my procedure did hurt a bit but by the sound of it that’s unusual it was pretty quick and once done there wasn’t really any issue with recovery and I didn’t find it particularly sore afterwards.

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 24/10/2024 09:05

I've had one. I was 28 and pre-kids.

The procedure was fine, there was a lovely nurse whose sole job was to hold my hand and talk to me. I thought it was a bit weird at the time that she wasn't doing anything, only occurrence to me afterwards that she was the distraction!

It was really quite painful afterwards, but only for 1-2 days, and no worse than my very worst period.

Conceived twice with no issues.

No dodgy smears since.

Hope today goes well and you're going straight home to rest x

Tiredallthetimeneedsleep · 24/10/2024 22:59

How did it go OP?

Viewfrommyhouse · 24/10/2024 23:03

CIN3 for me, I had a cone biopsy at 25yo. All good since, and I now have DS too. My obstetrician did put me on progesterone as a precaution when I was pregnant, but it was just a precaution, I had no issues. You'll be fine Flowers

Soworrried · 25/10/2024 09:25

Thank you. It wasn't very nice and I felt really distressed afterwards. She took what looked like quite a big chunk. Feeling a bit better today.

Well done OP. They took a big chunk of mine too but my last smear the doctor said you couldn’t even tell I’d had it done as it had healed so well. Best wishes

All done now @Soworrried! Lots of treats.
