Why does the whole town need to be awake?

Because something serious must be going on?

The helicopter (police or ambulance) wouldn't be in the air if they didn't think it was needed. Be thankful it is only noise you can hear/disturbed sleep - someone else could be much worse situation.
I used to live next to a railway line, the other side of which there was a river. We were short disrance away from a motorway and 2 dual carriageways. Didn't hapoen everyday, but the helicopter hovering or circling over the house wasn't unusual. You just accept it as necessary noise.

Let's hope it's not a elderly relative or friend of your that they are looking for , or a lost child eh

Those criticising you OP clearly don't live in areas where Chinooks are doing drills in the middle of the night so close to your house that you can see the pilot wink at you. And before anyone pipes up, I'm talking about drills, not here and now emergencies....OR generally living in an area where the wealthy constantly helicopter your house to gather in a place nearby with other wealthy helicopter owners.

In other words OP, I feel your aggravation on a regular basis where I live!

@ReadingSoManyThreads@ReadingSoManyThreads yes that happens to us to. Last night one of the training helicopters flew so low over our garden the dog woke up and looked up and watched it fly over...

On the plus side they change training areas so you don't tend to get two lights in a row!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 23/10/2024 03:27

It's all that Leonardo da Vinci's fault. He started the whole thing off with his wild ideas.

SwingTheMonkey · 23/10/2024 03:47

I live in an area where aircraft fly very low on training exercises and often it’s at night. Where and when do people think the military should train, if not over areas that are populated?!
Yes it can be a pain, but it’s necessary.

If it’s a search helicopter- it can’t be happening often enough to cause an issue.

Wanker.

Larrythebloodycat · 23/10/2024 05:19

Because nobody has been able to find a way of making helicopters operate quietly, and because night flight training wouldn't be very effective in the daylight would it?

We have a business owner who helicopters in to his office near my residential area almost every weekday. Because the office so close to the houses, it's very low and noisy. At least once a week it arrives early enough that I'm woken by it.
