Night diving

I have astigmatism and am also sort and long sighted. Night driving is impossible. Not difficult- impossible.

I have read contact lenses can help. But there's so many and I'm confused. I've made an appointment with Specsavers but over the phone they said only an anti glare coating will help.

I can't afford laser eye surgery (I don't even know if this corrects astigmatism?). Do any of you wear contacts for astigmatism and are now able to see in the dark?

I can't spend the rest of my life only coming out in day time!! Help!!

How bad is your astigmatism? I have one eyeball that would rival a squashed rugby ball and have had eye cancer. Bottle top -5.0 lenses in my specs but do wear contacts. Have you tried lenses? I’m with Specsavers and they try every sort of lens til you’re happy. I’ve tried loads of torics to sort my astigmatism but none have sat well on my eyeball. But lenses and certain coloured sunglasses help at night, is it the light fracture that is stopping you?

Might it be the brighter headlights ? Lots of people, even without an astigmatism are struggling with night time driving.

I think there is an investigation currently underway

I had astigmatism and had laser surgery to correct my short sightedness quite a few years ago. It did sort out the astigmatism but night driving was actually worse for a while as I got haloing as a result. Imagine street lamps on a misty night, that's what all lights looked like. Also my contrast is a bit worse so I need things to be really well lit at night.
I find glasses with an anti glare coating are quite helpful.
