As the title says, I've had it a few times when I've declined an offer, people then message me to say they can buy the item cheaper elsewhere, I tend to just ignore but always tempted to reply well crack on then, I won't stop you! 🙄

I work in a supermarket and get this all the time. People come up to my till and tell me that we're overcharging for - say, cauliflowers, and they can get them for £1 less in town.

My usual reply is sympathy, after all, they hopefully know that I'm not in a position to knock £1 off the price of their cauli. But if they're obnoxious about it, I tell them to go and do their shopping in town then.

I'd just reply with 'OK, it's your choice. Have a nice day'

Then block them!

I do this, when sellers have unreasonable rates eg on at full price when the item is now on half price sale in the original shop for example.

i thought I was doing sellers a favour - I do go on to buy it elsewhere but I thought the seller might want to know why it’s not selling. But it seems I’m wasting my time 🤷‍♀️

I wouldn't actually send that message to a seller but I have thought the same before. Often sellers (not all) price their item but don't remember that when you include the Vinted buyer fee and postage it's sometimes the same as/close to the price the item is brand new. In which case you're usually better off buying new to keep your consumer rights. I saw a top on vinted earlier, £25 brand new with tags. The seller put it on for £18 but with fees and postage it would have cost me almost £23. For £2 extra it's sometimes worth buying elsewhere, especially if it's free/cheap delivery.

@He11oKitty usually I do a price check before I list, and on this occasion it's something I've bought on Vinted that hasn't fitted and I just want back what I paid for it. It just makes me smile, usually after someone tells me about my overpricing I sell it for what I've asked for.

Mmm... I think it depends. Generally speaking, I'm inclined to agree with you. People either buy the item or don't.
However, what I do take issue with is people who purchase/list so-called 'viral' sale items to sell on Vinted for a premium. This, to me, is just ripping people off.

God I used to hate timewasters who "helpfully" messaged me about my listing. I was selling Wedgewood on Ebay many years ago and someone messaged me to tell me my item wasn't collectible because they'd already got the full set so I shouldn't describe the item as a collectible.

Butchyrestingface · 22/10/2024 17:29

The block button is your friend.

Having said that, I've seen people post second hand items listed as "good" or "very good" on these sites that are still in stock on-line and have gone to sale brand new for less than what they're being sold on Depop, Vinted, etc. I still wouldn't message someone about it though.

blushroses6 · 22/10/2024 17:35

Even something brand new i’d tend to list for a couple pounds cheaper on Vinted as once you’ve added postage/buyer protection etc it works out quite a bit more. I often see kids clothing items listed at full retail price when they are still available in the shop and wonder if they ever actually sell for the price they are wanting - but i’d never message them! Generally speaking i think Ebay is better for selling more expensive/special items, people are just searching for bargains on Vinted.

@MiraculousLadybug sorry can I pick your brains. Did you manage to sell the wedge wood and what sort of prices?

It was 2005 so probably not a helpful guide and I really can't remember what it went for. It did sell fairly shortly, but the market was totally different back then. Wedgewood is worth very, very little now as the market is totally oversaturated. If you look on Ebay you can see what other people are listing their items for and you can look just at ones that have sold to see what's actually selling.
