to wonder what school will do with this information?

My daughter has started reception this September.

We had social services involvement in 2021, but the case was closed after a month.

The ss case was due to someone in my family being arrested for indecent images.

It was never a S47 enquiry and the children have never been on a child protection plan or child in need plan.

I still felt I had to be honest with the school about the historic involvement due to the seriousness of the arrest.

On the registration form for primary school there was a question about current or previous ss involvement.

I wrote down "previous ss involvement in 2021, case closed, please contact me if there are any questions".

The safeguarding lead hasn't spoken to me yet - would they contact social services to find out the reason for their involvement?

I'd expect they would contact SS and be told its closed and would be nothing further

So, someone in your family was arrested for indecent images of children and it sounds like social services simply interviewed you and the kids the make sure your children weren’t harmed by this person? So you were essentially interviewed as potential victims. And then they were happy to find that your children were not involved. Why would you even tell the school that? You didn’t actually have any involvement or intervention.

In short, no.

The school will not contact SS. If it's closed, then the matter is presumed dealt with.

If your child was at nursery at this time, then they should have passed their safeguarding records onto the school.

Our county has a system where you can check if any child is currently open to SS. If they have a similar system, they'll be able to check and see if you're open or closed to SS. No details of why.

Because the question was if my child had ever had contact with a social worker.

They did and I just felt I had to disclose it.

You were right to disclose it. The school will probably speak to SS and once they know what happened, they will leave it at that. They probably wouldn't feel the need to raise it with you.

Thank you - that was my thinking.

Better to disclose it now rather than the school being surprised by it if they find out any time in the future.

I wouldn't worry at all about this. They may contact SS but they might not. Either way I don't think it really matters, as you say the case is closed and your children aren't at risk

Ivehearditbothways · 22/10/2024 09:38

I was spoken to by the police as a witness/sort of victim to something when i was 19. When I had my first child at 22, the booking in appointment included a question about “have you ever had any involvement with the police” and I said no, because I didn’t think that counted. My only involvement was a victim of something really minor, I haven’t had “police involvement.”
I would have assumed this was the same. Your kids were spoken to as potential victims but they weren’t and there was no case. I don’t see why the school even need that on file?

It is recorded and not acted on unless it is needed.

We have children with SW involvement where there are no issues but they need to go via SW to get respite.
