Cold or chest infection?

Dd is 2.5 and has had a cold all weekend. Ok in herself. Laughing, playing, reduced appetite but eating and drinking ok. Very clingy and emotional and had a horrible hacking cough. Snotty too but mostly clear snot. Noticed she sounds a little crackly today so tried to get a doctors appointment but there are none surprise surprise. She feels hot but it goes down with calpol.

Will try doctors again tomorrow. But wondering if this sounds like a typical cold or a chest infection. I do tend to panic when my dc get poorly and we're due to go away on Wednesday so just not sure what to do if we can't get seen tomorrow. Would a pharmacist listen to her chest?

I think it sounds like a typical cold from what you’ve described. It’s only been a couple of days too. Try not to worry, stick with the calpol, and hopefully you’ll get away. It doesn’t sound like a doctor issue

I had this with DD, in primary school every cold she got for years ended up with a hacking cough (autumn to winter kind of timescale) so loud that school would send her home. It was post nasal drip. This often went on for 7 weeks or more. It got to the point that I even thought bloody hell because she'd go red in the face with the force of the cough about to come out. So many GP appointments but nothing to help until it passed.
Keep on top of her temp with a thermometer and go from there.

chest infection you can hear a underlaying crackle on the chest as air moves in/out. also sometimes breathless

Can't work out if the crackle is her chest or throat/nasal area. Trying to get an appointment today but was 27th in the queue and had to leave for work. So I've left her with dh and requested a call back. Ideally I don't want her to have antibiotics but I also don't want to be away and not have anything to give her if she gets worse.

What was the point in this post? You've offered absolutely zero helpful input. Would it be better if I didn't care? Chest infections can turn nasty quickly.

If she had a chest infection she’d likely be more unwell in herself. It does sound like a cold.

I know it’s horrible when they’re young and unwell! But presumably there will be access to healthcare where you are going?

You know you are panicking and overthinking something when you don't need to.

Why not antibiotics? If they are prescribed by a doctor, then surely you would want what is best for your child? Given that, I guess, you're not a doctor?

When my daughter had a chest infection, she had a temperature of 38.9 & could hear crackling on her chest as she breathed.
