To think if I ask the school to notify meof something ,they should?

I recently filled a form in for my DD to get her medical at school, in the comments box I stated "I wish to be present when the medical takes place"
Simple enough one would yhink ,but no my DD comes home and gayly tells me "I got weighed measured and my hearing tested today Mum".
I know it seems quite trivial, but if it was not possible they could have contacted me.
It just makes me think what else happens without my consent
the headteacher was needless to say gobsmacked when I spoke to him about it.

What I am trying to say (rather lamely ) is that YHSM is entirely missing the point IMO

eddiejo · 25/04/2008 18:09

Sorry but what is YHSM and IMO and the other one that everyone uses YAMBO or something??!!

I have been into schoolagain today ,as I sort the fruit that the KS1 children get.(Iwould point out this is done when the children are out at play ,so I am not hovering over my child then either)
The head teacher(male) was nowhere to be found ,so I will have to wait until Monday to find out the answer.
The point of the whole question was ,if you ask on a form given to the school to READ , that they do just that, and act upon your wishes.
By the way I asked about 6 mums today what a helicopter parent was and no-one had a clue.
As I said before if anyone knew me in RL they would be dying laughing at the thought of me being one.

YHSM is ahorthand for youhaventseenme's posting name
YANBU You Are Not Being Unreasonable
IMo In My opinion

I agree that you shouldn't wind the teachers up unneccessarily, but if a parent has valid reasons for wanting/needing to be there, I feel they should neither be berated for overprotectiveness, nor have their wishes ignored

flossie64 · 25/04/2008 19:11

I obviously don't wind my dd's form teacher up as she always asks if i can help when they do outings , for projects etc. On these trips we always look after other peoples children so there is no pandering to your own child. My dd always says why do you not tsake any notice of me on trips, i say because I am there to help the others not you.

Thanks mazzystar.

If the problem is with the school nurse, why would it irritate the teachers? What is the point of allowing parents the option of attending the medical, if you are then going to ignore what they want? YANBU.

I went to my son's medical at his school - it was a full medical including a meningitis jab, and it was just as well I went as he had the screaming abdabs when he had the injection. I went, not because I'm a helicopter parent; my DH is in the RN and does it deeper not higher; but because my ds has had a plethora of medical conditions including a hole in the heart, that needd to be mentioned to the doctor at his new school.

Some parents want to be there, and if we have the time so what? If the teacher was at the medical, I would be very angry, as it should be medical staff and parents only, so why it should piss off teachers I don't know, and I am one!

flossie64 · 26/04/2008 20:23

Thanks for that scary.
I am more likely to scare the teachers than piss them off.LOL
Total tangent ,but my DH did 3yrs on exchange with the RN , he was on Illustrious

Agree with scary. Flossie you are not being U.

The only thing I'm thinking is: did it say on the form when the medical would be? And if you didn't turn up did they think you had changed your mind about going?

flossie64 · 27/04/2008 19:02

Cammelia - No it did not specify when it would be , other than being soon . It was 5-6wks since I filled the form in .

Then they are indeed at fault by not contacting you.

flossie64 · 28/04/2008 09:53

Well everyone , I have spoken with the head again today and he has been in touch with the nursing team and is waiting for a call bac to resolve this.
He says he will chase again today if he has not heard by lunchtime.
By the way we have all had a good laugh at the helicopter pilot parent thing , especially that anyone would think I was one .Even the head teacher was laughing, although he had never heard the saying before.

Glad he's onto it. ( I'd never heard of it before either!)
