To want to hire a cleaner

I really struggle to keep on top of house cleaning at times. I work and study part time to a combined total of over 40 hours a week work/study (term time only) but I also do all the childcare for my school age kids every school holiday so no real break there either. Partner does 45 hour weeks and nights. I have family commitments at the weekend. There are after schools clubs to take kids to during the week and tutoring for older child. I also support older child with studies 1 hour a week. After all this I feel very tired. Then there are the household chores including cleaning. AIBU to consider hiring a weekly cleaner, we have household income around 60k before taxes and whatnot but our living expenses are not extreme. It’s not something I’ve ever done before but thinking it really might help, considering how I often feel very tired by end of week. What do you think and anyone who has help from a cleaner what are the typical costs?

If you want a cleaner and you can afford a cleaner, hire a cleaner. Price will depend on where you live. I'm not sure why it would be unreasonable? I have two hours a week and I would be loathe to give it up as long as I can afford it. Makes a massive difference to me, and it's my money.

If the problem is that you (as in everyone who lives they) do not have time to complete the necessary household chores and you can cover the cost, then have at it.

Find someone really good, pay them well, ask them what you can do to make their job with you as easy as possible and enjoy. It really is something that can transform your life.

If you get the right person it's life changing. I had 2.5 hours per week when working, house was pristine when we came home for tge weekend. We paid her over the odds but it was worth every penny.

If you think you can afford it, then do it.

I pay £15 an hour.

Getting a cleaner was one of the best decisions we've ever made. We both work stressful jobs and to have one less thing to worry about is amazing. Honestly, I'd give up a lot before I gave up my cleaner.

£20ph in the north west. They were around £15ph until this year and have as everything has gone up!

I have a 4 bed detached and need a good 3 hours a week on it! So it’s not cheap!

Just out of interest, why do you think it might be unreasonable to pay someone for a service they are offering with money you have spare?

Noone asks if they are being unreasonable to hire a window cleaner or get their car washed, do they?

Sherrystrull · 20/10/2024 22:20

Do it. I have this year and it's been life changing.

@Sherrystrull Where did you look for a cleaner? I want to start my own business and I'm looking to advertise
