Can you grant annual leave after mat leave and take it back?

I work for the NHS, currently on mat leave due to return at the beginning of December. On my maternity contract it asked how many weeks annual leave I'd like to take on my return and I put 4. This was sent to the maternity lead, signed and then in writing it says my leave was agreed by line manager. However, I have now been put down for shifts. When querying it, I was told I can't have it off due to staffing and no one is having annual leave over Christmas. Is this allowed?

@tobeornottobe1 she did say I could use it up in November but don't want to use it in my unpaid leave part of mat leave when I am off anyway 😔

are you in the union? I’d contact my rep and ask for guidance from them.

She cannot make you come back from maternity leave early! Have you had your return to work meeting yet?

Can you put in 4 weeks worth of parental leave?

This is your accumulated leave from Mat leave yes? If they won’t allow you to tag it onto the end of your may leave when do they propose you use it?

I work for the NHS (and am clinical) and have never heard of anyone not being able to use their accumulated annual leave on the back of their mat leave…
