7 year old DS likes to sleep in our bed

My DS is 7 and he likes to sleep in our bed. If we let him we he'd come in there every night but we just let him a couple nights a week or at the weekend.

Tbh we don't really mind if he did do it every night we just think it's good for him to have the habit of his own room/bed.

We also have a younger one who likes to sneak in to our bed at some point so it can get a bit of a squeeze!

When did your child naturally grow out of this?

My youngest is 9 and would happily chuck DH out of our bed so she could sleep me every night! We don't let her sleep in our bed though unless one of us is away or she's ill.
Older DD stopped wanting to be in with us much younger, maybe 4/5.

One of mine was the same at that age. Just didn't like falling asleep in his own bed but would happily read and fall asleep in ours. We used to carry him through to his when we went to bed. When he was around 10 he was too heavy for me to carry without waking him and would get woken up by us going in to our room in the evening and it was affecting his sleep so we had to have a chat and ended up suggesting to him that he needed to go to bed in house own bed in the week but Fridays and Saturdays could fall asleep in ours. Didn't take long until he was just going to bed in his own bed every night. Then I missed it!

They are only little for a short time, if they find comfort in falling asleep in their parent's bed then enjoy it while it lasts.

I understand the impulse - it's only in fairly recent human history where children (in some parts of the world) are expected to sleep in a different bed, never mind a different room. It's unsurprising that some children find that a bit lonely or frightening, and enjoy the comfort of sleeping alongside their siblings or parents.

It won't be forever, so I wouldn't feel any worries about letting it go on a bit, on the occasional day.

Neither of my dc ever slept in with us. On the rare occasion we tried, they chose to go back to their own beds after not very long. I don't remember ever sleeping in my mum's bed either,
