Viewing a house, next door neighbours garden a tip

Bunnyxo · 18/10/2024 09:19

Currently looking at houses as hoping to buy soon

I went to view one in an area i love however the neighbours front garden (there’s no divide between the gardens in this street) is a mess with kids toys

I’ve noticed this house before as you can see it from the main road and have always thought what a mess 🙈

Am I being pedantic?

This would be an immediate no from me! My old neighbours were the same and they were a nightmare.

Tel12 · 18/10/2024 09:20

It's a no from me.

LlynTegid · 18/10/2024 09:22

Not at all.

MeganM3 · 18/10/2024 09:23

No, decided not to buy a house based on neighbour back garden being a horrendous mess before.

Roguebludger · 18/10/2024 09:23

Avoid like the plague

MidnightPatrol · 18/10/2024 09:23

I’d not buy it on these grounds.

That’s probably just the beginning…

Stretchedresources · 18/10/2024 09:24

Yanbu. They'll be other ways they're assholes on top of that.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 18/10/2024 09:24

What sort of mess? Kids' toys that they use every day and just don't put away overnight, or discarded stuff?

K0OLA1D · 18/10/2024 09:26

Depends on the mess. Kids just not put toys away from the night before? Ok. Discarded junk and mess, then probably not

Namechange9373 · 18/10/2024 09:26

is it just a mess with kids toys? If so, that really wouldn’t bother me. A mess with dog poo or electric appliances on the other hand… well that would be a firm no. A garden is supposed to bring joy, kids playing in the garden is a good thing for me.

stanleypops66 · 18/10/2024 09:30

It would be a huge no from me. A garden with no boundary, lots of mess and potentially loud kids screaming outside my living room.

pilates · 18/10/2024 09:32

Sorry, but no.

rainbowbee · 18/10/2024 09:34

No. The type who do that are the type you don't want to live beside.

pizzaHeart · 18/10/2024 09:34

it maybe one off or just one of this weeks. I would be more put off by the fact that there is no possibility to put on a fence. Open plan always put me off in the past.

I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s been this way since lockdown!

If that long absolutely no.

SoiledMyselfDuringSomeTurbulence · 18/10/2024 09:50

I don't consider houses with no fencing between gardens full stop, whatever state they're in. Yanbu.

Whenwillitgetwarm · 18/10/2024 09:51

Ever wondered why the owners are selling??!

needsomewarmsunshine · 18/10/2024 09:53

No fence no go. The neighbour could have a show garden but I like my privacy on all levels.

I was slightly concerned when I seen they’d only owned for a couple of years 🤔

Don't touch with a dirty 10ft barge pole

We sell every couple of years as we are climbing the ladder.

OP if it's just toys it wouldn't bother me, maybe approach them and ask if you can run a fence down the middle or does it also have a back garden?

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 18/10/2024 10:18

Drive / walk past at different times of the day to see if the neighbours are around and check them out.
Or even knock and ask opposite. 5 mins of being awkward and a bit weird will save you decades of stress if you buy next to back people.

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 18/10/2024 10:19

Post a pic and we can judge if they are normal family messy or the cast of Shameless.

Whenwillitgetwarm · 18/10/2024 10:19

Will this be your forever home? If not, swerve. Think about whether the mess may reduce the number of potential buyers when it’s your time to sell. Read PPs for the answer.
