To ask what’s wrong with my baby?

Not really AIBU but posting for traffic. My one year has been consistently up screaming most of the night since recovering from gastroenteritis a week and a half ago. My first thought was dairy so we cut that out a week ago which has reduced the blood curdling screams to crying. Even when not crying she is squirming in her sleep as though she’s uncomfortable. My new thought is reflux, she never suffered with it as a baby but her breath is bad and she is wanting to drink a lot in the night. Gp appointments are hard to come by and I don’t think “my baby cries at night” will cut it.

Nasty bugs can really mess with gut bacteria, sounds like cutting out the dairy was a good call. If she's been dehydrated could she have become constipated?

Have you given some calpol? If that helps calm her down then it shows she is in pain in some way. Worth seeking a gp consult about I would think.

Make an appointment with the nurse or GP. How did you cut a 1yr olds dairy? Do they not still drink milk?

I've had stomach issues most of my life and after I've had a stomach bug it sets them all off again, I found following the fodmap diet really helps.

You need to see your GP. Tell them you think something is wrong. You will be seen.

It sounds like the tummy bug could have irritated the stomach and caused a bit of reflux. But I'd go to the gp to get them checked out

When my DC was a baby I remember one GP told me that after a stomach bug it can strip the gut of good bacteria and can cause them to have a very sensitive tummy and have some intolerances until the good bacteria has been built back up after I noticed he has really runny poos for a significant time after the bug had passed. He never had a dairy intolerance before but we did have to build up to it.

There is a tummy bug that results in a temporary (think along the lines of a couple of years, not days) dairy allergy.

Soy has a number is similar proteins to dairy - if you have cut out dairy then make sure you aren’t using soy as a replacement. Also even the tiniest amount of dairy (malted milk biscuits etc) can have an effect. It took me too long to work this out with my
daughter.

Thanks for all the replies already. We are living in France (near the Swiss border so the brain drain is real), the system for GP appointments is different from the UK. I have bought some probiotics, she is on day four. Also she is hating lying down she gets up and try’s to escape but I’m pretty sure is discomfort rather than behaviour. The rest of the family has had the stomach bug and no one else is struggling also she is having regular bowel movements.
