Really worried just got scammed

I can't believe I've been an idiot. I normally never do this but I stupidly was looking at a dog rescue site and I clicked to watch the dogs live and it said I needed to pay £0.01 for 24 hours and then it was £39/month unless you cancel and I assumed it was a way to get donations and so I just clicked apple pay. I've been charged £0.01 but couldn't see the dogs or the video. So I then went to cancel the subscription on my phone and it's not there. Bit strange, I thought.

But then what freaked me out, is I had an email from the website to my personal email address - how would they know this?!! - saying

Your Feast-Finds subscription is now active. Enjoy a 1-day trial for £0.01. A service fee of £34.9 /month will then apply..

and then they've put my username which is my email address and a password.

I didn't click on the link but i googled this address and a weird generic website comes up with a contact number and when I google that contact number it's the same contact number for lots of similar websites.

Am really worried now. Can anyone tell me what to do - and have they hacked my email?!!!

Bumping for you OP.

Can you call the bank..?

Hellohowareyou112 · 17/10/2024 22:28

You could cancel your card that you used to pay and get a new one…

WiddlinDiddlin · 17/10/2024 22:34

Is it not showing in the subscriptions bit of the app store menu?

WiddlinDiddlin · 17/10/2024 22:37

Btw a live cam feed in the UK is likely to be off or in darkness now... they'll have your email that is attached to your apple account.

If you can't find it to cancel, t hen remove that payment card from your apple account and don't add a new one until you get more info on whatever it is you've signed up to.

Createausername1970 · 17/10/2024 22:38

Contact the emergency number on the back of the card.

I would suggest temporarily freezing your account overnight if they can, then sort it out properly in the morning.

That's how things are supposed to work. Apple Pay will gave autocompleted a form with all your details. I don't think you've been scammed, you just signed up for a crap service.

ManhattanPopcorn · 17/10/2024 22:48

You can usually freeze or cancel you card by logging on to your online banking but don't do it from the same device that you accessed the scam in case you downloaded something.

parietal · 17/10/2024 22:48

This is probably all via Apple Pay and you can probably cancel via Apple pay too.

worriedscam2024 · 17/10/2024 22:48

Thankfully I'm with starling who have 24/7 support - they've been really great and just cancelled it.

I am really worried about how they managed to email me and then have quoted my email address as my username in the email with a password, saying click on this link let's go.

If you google the number for feast finds, they've got generic websites for yoga etc all with the same number so I think it is a scam.

Oh dear, I'm much more worried they've hacked all my accounts or emails

They have your details from Apple Pay, that’s literally how that works. One click and you don’t have to put in all your email address, phone number, home address and card details.

KrisAkabusi · 17/10/2024 22:51

When you sign up for something with Apple or Google pay your contact details are supplied to the site. It is highly unlikely your emails have been hacked.

worriedscam2024 · 17/10/2024 22:54

Sorry if I sound really idiotic, but they sent this to my gmail. Is that possible?

Thank you - it was a US dog shelter in Washington which is legit but teaches me not to follow links off a page.

Yes. My apple pay is linked to my gmail. When I am on a website and click to pay by Apple Pay, it automatically populates my name, address, email address for shipping etc.

Exactly this. OP, you need to read up on Apple Pay, particularly as when you set it up you would have had Terms and Conditions to read and accept…

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 17/10/2024 23:01

As others have said when you buy with Apple pay it fills out the details for you. So your email, postal address, phone number will be sent.

buffyfaithspike · 17/10/2024 23:32

I googled and it gave me this, then when I google the number it gives me scam alerts

I had a look at Feast-Finds and it’s a recipe website, not a “weird generic website”. You must have clicked on an advert on the dog rescue page and then subscribed to the recipe site by mistake.

I don’t think you were scammed. You just signed up for a subscription for the recipe site. Had you logged in with the instructions on the email you probably would have been able to cancel your subscription on the site. All sorted by your bank now though - and contacting them is safer than clicking links if you are concerned - so nothing to worry about now.

A scam

Recently, I ordered something from Amazon UK, which was shipped from China. They provided me with tracking information for China Post, but it stated that if I wanted live updates, I had to complete a verification (with a £0.00 charge). Next thing I know, they've charged at 3 am.

Luckily, my Apple Pay default is my credit card, so I've just cancelled my card and claimed the money back
