Men and strip clubs

My cousin’s DH recently went on a stag, and she is “chuffed” because he didn’t get a lap dance out there, when all of his (also married) friends did. AIBU to think that this is a pretty low standard?

@catlesslady Yout post expresses exactly how I feel.

I wonder if the people who focus on the question of ‘is it cheating?’ are the same simpletons who think women that object to strip clubs are just ‘jealous’ which completely misses the point. If I was going to be jealous of women who are younger and more sexually attractive than me, there are plenty to choose from without having to go anywhere near a strip club. I see dozens of women every day who are younger and more attractive than me. My OH presumably sees them too. My objection to strip clubs is not about jealousy but about wanting to be with a man who respects women and doesn’t view them as decorative, titillating objects. It’s also about having empathy and concern for women who have been trafficked/coerced/groomed or otherwise ended up in a situation they’d rather not be in because they didn’t have the choices and opportunities that other women had.

This is more or less what I said, but her response was “this is America - strippers are paid loads there and it’s a positive choice for them”. I was the one being anti-feminist because I wasn’t respecting their choices. I can’t say if I agree or disagree because I don’t know how much strippers are paid in New York. But since her H paid nothing, that’s neither here nor there!

Strippers have to pay a house fee to work in the club at all, so if they don't get paid dances or tips from the men they wind up worse off than if they'd stayed at home. I assume New York is the same as here (in that regard, anyway).

Is it just a mens thing these days? When I was younger male strippers were common and a feature at many hen dos. You don't hear of it as much.

Cappuccinowithonesugarplease · 17/10/2024 15:27

A lot of strippers do sit downs where men just pay for their company, in a 'champagne room'. Not stripping off involved. This is where the big money is.
Unpopular opinion but men in general are visual creatures, so it wouldn't surprise me if they all got a dance.
IMO women are worse with male strippers!

I went to a male strip show years and years ago for a friend's hen, the women were awful!

Yes, the women who go and see male strippers are generally awful. Not really the sort of women I keep as friends!
