Fringe or no fringe?

DD is 2.5 and has really long thick hair down to her bum. I use clips and tie it up but it inevitably ends up in her face which she doesn't seem to mind but will push her hair out of the way constantly. So do I do a fringe so the hair isn't in her face or is a fringe too hard to maintain and I should persevere with clips?
YABU - fringe is best
YANBU - fringe is too much maintenence

My daughters hair, also 2, does this, she doesn't like clips so I'm just waiting until it grows out. Hated growing my fringe out at 11 and she would look identical to me with one which i dont want. Gel works though.

3 dd's here... No fringe. Never.. Ever...

DD had a fringe at this age, up until she was 7 or 8 I think when she decided she wanted to grow it out. She had it cut back in in her teens.

Far easier than clips.

Personally I look horrible (aesthetically) without a fringe but I think they are also good for practical reasons, because if you haven't got one you basically can't wear your hair down at all without it going in your face.

Definitely a fringe. Her hair will stay out of her eyes and face without the need for fussy clips, which can pull and pinch. Fringes are really not hard to maintain, and look great (provided the fringe is not too short, or too heavy).

I tend to find a five year cycle works well for fringes.

Cut the fringe, feel instant regret, maintain it for one year, then next four years growing it out. Rinse and repeat.

Do you who say fringe have any experience of holding a toddler still for a fringe trim?

SabreIsMyFave · 16/10/2024 21:33

I like to see a fringe. And I think young children look better with them. As a pp said it's hard for a school age child (or younger) to control their hair if it's flopping about all over their face. (At the front.)

Of course. How else do you think my toddler had a fringe?

😂
Why? I’m the same but I can’t articulate it. I’ve just had one cut in aged 55 and love it! I wouldn’t have had it for my dds though or me younger.

If her hair is naturally straight, I suppose a fringe could be a consideration
If it's wavy in the slightest it'll stick upwards and sideways and look frankly ridiculous.

Even with straight hair, a fringe is still high maintenance though.

No fringe. Once it's long enough to tie back you can do loads of styles like that. When she gets to school they need it tied up every day anyway. And tying up stops knots and tears.

It's ridiculously long and I put it in a bun and clip it as well but she somehow ends up with it all unravelled, over her face and looking like she's been through a hedge backwards.

I've never found a fringe high maintenance.

why do girls have to have hair all over their face?

russellpeel · 17/10/2024 08:13

Yes, fringes are much easier at that age. She can always grow it out when she’s older and can manage clips etc herself. My DD had very long hair too at that age. She had a chic French Bob at some point.
