Cut budgets, don’t put a tax on jobs!

The tax take from successive governments has got completely out of hand. Now it is being suggested we put a tax on an employers pension contribution.
AIBU to say that we should now be shrinking the budget/state spend rather than trying to look for blood to squeeze from a stone?

We need good well-funded public services (which actually would save money because false economy is real). But I'd say better to address misspending rather than constantly raise taxes or cut budgets.

Address the false economy approach, and tackle lack of accountability and transparency re public services.

That said if taxes must increase, it's better to increase income tax than tax pensions, especially with the likelihood of people dying before getting the state pension (which is also a pitiful sum compared to most other developed countries).

Also could change inheritance tax - to tax it on the wealth of the beneficiary.

One thing that would significantly save the economy - save it many billions, is more council housing. Billions is needed for private rent housing benefits (including for people in work) and on temporary accommodation, and billions more needed for the NHS and other public services - because, as published in the BMJ, bad and insecure housing harms health.

If we run the NHS into the ground, won't more people need support? Mental health or physical illness can mean people can't work or have limited capability for work.

If we don't invest in social services, what happens with abused and neglected children, those with disabilities and the elderly?

If we cut benefits, what happens to those who can't afford to pay their rent or put food on the table? Millions already use foodbanks and millions of children are in absolute poverty already.

Britain simply isn't as rich a country as its people think. So its government is spending more than it raises in tax, its people spend more than they earn and are drowning in debt, and what little assets it still has are sold to foreigners to finance a higher level of imports than exports.

At some point this fantasy has to stop. Unless the country suddenly becomes a lot richer, when it stops then taxes will go up and spending will go down. You won't have the luxury of a choice between the two.

It's really a tax on PRIVATE SECTOR pensions as anything on public sector pensions will flow back to gov't

It will lead to less hiring and smaller salary budgets
