To ask for your baby trapped wind solutions??

Not a tiny baby - she’s nearly 14 months.

The last few weeks she has been SCREAMING in pain all night from wind. Her tummy is huge, bloated and hard and she farts throughout the night but it doesn’t seem to be enough.

She’s already no dairy because dairy makes her vomit, so that can’t be what causes it.

She seems relatively settled during the day.

I just wish I could help her. Infacol seems hopeless.

I imagine you need to get to the root cause and eliminate it (rather than trying to "mask" it with infacol or similar). Another allergy/intolerance seems the likely culprit? Is she under a dietician or anything?

Poor thing! Trapped wind can be so painful.

Is it every night? Try and keep a food diary so you can see what is/isn’t causing it?

This seems unusual for a toddler and would surely have a cause rather than just trapped wind. Maybe visit the GP. Could be teething as molars erupting around that age are quite painful and teething sometimes causes tummy trouble

Is she having enough liquid? Obviously she’s not having milk so what is she having - many babies don’t really like drinking water so only have little sips.

when she poos, is it hard and pebbly ?

Warm bath and tummy massage should help a bit but not the underlying cause as pp said. There is also something called Wind eez (sp?) but I never tried it, basically a little tube you put into their bum!! Bit scary but works well apparently.

Could be another allergy. Dietician waiting list is 20 months. She’s on it 😔

Is she off soy as well since dairy & soy allergy often go hand in hand

I've tried it all, but very little works with mine. DS1 is 5 and still has it occasionally. DS2 is 2yo and we're up every night for hours trying to get it out. He has wind both top and bottom but I'm certain the bottom is just the burps going to the other way.

Gripe water was better than infacol for us because the dill helps to relax the tummy

Wheat always makes us worse which I know is because of intolerance but honestly I'd recommend trying to cut it back to anyone with digestive problems.

Sorry Windeez is for adults. The device I remembered is called the Windi.

JamMakingWannaBe · 15/10/2024 22:06

Baby massage. Watch some YouTube videos if you can't attend a class. It won't help the underlying cause but it may help release the trapped wind.

Gripe water worked for us

Is your DC still growing and feeling well in general? I would do the food diary for about a week like PP commented but also writing symptoms alongside, recording any flare ups plus what meds you give and then take DC to the GP. You might have to be the squeaky wheel here OP to get seen quicker/be taken seriously. The dietitian can't do much without a diagnosis either because their first line will probably be to ask you to do a food diary!! (They'll need it to help assess your DC)

Is DC constipated? That's very very common in small kids. Hopefully the GP can help xxx

doodoodahdah · 16/10/2024 06:39

Also, I would not go cutting additional foods out from DCs diet without guidance from a professional because you need to be very sure about how you then fill those gaps in terms of nutrition. DC is dairy free right now, so you know how to handle that. Cutting out anything else can do more harm than good and cause lots of anxiety for you.

Baked beans gave mine terrible trapped wind at that age. Had to stop them for a couple of years.
