Spelling app

Does anyone know if there is an app that you can get on your phone without paying a huge subscription where you can input your child's spellings? Thanks.

Input them for what? To test them or just as a reminder for you?

Newuser75 · 15/10/2024 15:20

So they can practice them through the week.

Nessy is a possibility

Thank you will have a look

That's exceptionally helpful thanks!
We do use a paper and pencil but I wondered if there was an app such as spelling shed which the old school had where they could practice by themselves some days while driving to and from school for example so as to make the best use of our time at home.

There's always one! 🙄

A dictionary? ( only if they are sufficiently bright to have a guess though.)

Or just do a list of problematic ones (use the aforementioned dictionary if you can't spell too well either) and get the child to spell out loud?

Why do you need an app?

CaptainMorgansMistress · 15/10/2024 19:50

You can still use spelling shed and just input their spelling words yourself

Make an Anki deck

CaptainMorgansMistress · 15/10/2024 19:53

And squeebles is worth a look too although my DC preferred spelling shed

Where do you download that from?

Write them out. Your child needs a parent to help them, not an app FGS

comedycentral · 15/10/2024 20:09

YouSpell by living code labs, it's on the app store. We also use traditional pen and paper methods but sometimes a little game can make it a fun challenge as you can earn stars.

Roastiesarethebestbit · 15/10/2024 20:10

My child likes squeebles. It does actually involve the parent helping them @TheBelleOfBelfastCity because you have to input the spellings and record yourself saying them for you child to hear and then spell. My child finds it good fun. It’s good to use a variety of techniques when learning spellings/anything really.

Thank you - my children have outgrown this now. I could picture the app they used and this was it. Without you, I would have been driving myself mad!

IIRC it was a few £ but was worth the money.

Hayley1256 · 15/10/2024 20:15

My DD has Edshed provided by school, it has her spellings already plugged in. Not sure how much it cost privately

Newuser75 · 15/10/2024 20:29

@TheBelleOfBelfastCity I help them every night but thanks for your concern!

We use YouSpell on the kids tablets. Both kids are happy with it and I can easily check how many words they've practiced, their success rate and it identifies the word that has been misspelt most frequently.

What does their school use? Maybe you could have access to that at home too?

Their current school doesn't have one.
