Dirty, crumb-brushing waiter?

Two of us went out to eat at a restaurant. Our waiter - a young lad who looked about 21/22 - got us seated at a table. Upon getting us seated, he noticed that our table was visibly dirty with crumbs from the people before. Instead of grabbing a cloth and wiping it, he decided to just brush the crumbs off with his hands (and not come back to wipe it). AIBU for not wanting to hurry back?

boring

Personally, I'd have just said 'would you mind giving the table a wipe' when someone came to take the order.

Moveoverdarlin · 14/10/2024 17:00

Can’t say this would bother me too much.

Pyroleus · 14/10/2024 17:03

I wouldn't care, so long as the table wasn't sticky.
You can choose to be annoyed by everyone who crosses your path if you want, but it makes for a much more pleasant life just to shrug these things off.

It's not as if you were eating directly off the table.

Sometimes I wish these sort of things were all I had to worry about.

You had crumbs on your table. The waiter noticed and cleaned them off. You're still not happy. What am I missing?

BestestBrownies · 14/10/2024 17:17

Eating out is almost always a disappointment and total waste of money these days. Standards for everything (food quality and selection, appropriately warmed/chilled plates, cleanliness, timely/friendly service, etc etc), are so low and the value for money so poor that it just isn't worth it.

DP and I both have a hospitality background and neither of us would touch the industry with a bargepole now.

Anybody else think the thread title sounds like an insult?
'You absolute dirty, crumb-brushing waiter, you!'

He didn’t clean them off, he brushed them off with his hands

Who is saying you are unreasonable?
Why do you think you might be unreasonable?
