To all of a sudden feel appreciated at work because I’m moving?

I’ve felt unappreciated at work for years, no recognition etc. And now that I’ve got a new role (it’s a good move for me) in the same company but a different department, all of a sudden I feel noticed. People saying how sad and gutted they are I’m leaving, that I’m hard to replace, wish I wasn’t going. How good I am at my job and asking why am I going.
feel very confused. Has anyone else found this? It’s made me feel quite sad I’m going all of a sudden but also if this was true why wasn’t it expressed before?

I've changed jobs twice so far. That happened every time. Partly, yes, people will only express appreciation as you leave. Coworkers will suddenly have a bigger workload as well which will highlight what you've been doing. But it's also partly just politeness.

I know I've been nice and said nice things to people I didn't like or didn't find impressive because, well, that's what you do. Sorry.

Oh yes I've had this several times even recently. They should have appreciated us when they had us. Don't be sad. You've got a lovely new job!

In my experience, when you make people feel too appreciated, they usually start asking for pay rises that we can't afford.

Don't get me wrong, we treat staff well and I'm always sure to thank people regularly for their hard work, but I don't gush and say they're hard to replace for the above reason.

Also though, there's a good chance they're just being kind. Everyone is replaceable really.
