Call back after A&E visit yesterday

My teen boy ended up in A&E yesterday. His hip gave way on him and he was in agony. Took him to A&E and he has an Avulsion fracture in his hip. This is the second time this has happened but this time it's the other hip. There seemed to be some concern about his pain level yesterday and his mobility but we were sent away with advice on what to do and to await a phone call for an MRI scan. Where he is feeling the most pain isn't in the area of the fracture and he is struggling to weight bare on it.

Someone from A&E called me earlier to ask how his pain was and how he was managing. I explained he's still in pain etc, and they were debating him going back to see the doctor. They ended up saying they'll leave it a week for a follow up but if things get worse or we can't manage the pain at home then to call back and a DR will see him.

A call back from A&E the day after being there isn't the norm is it?

Just bumping for you as I have no idea. Hope he's in less pain today.

They're probably concerned because it's not usual for a teenager to break a hip (and it's a really painful fracture!)

Hope he's okay - I got the most relief laying on my back with my leg propped up on a big stack of pillows!

It doesn't seem unusual. I would think the notes have been reviewed by someone more senior/ specialised who wanted further clarification or to offer more support if needed.

We were called back the next day as a fracture was missed, but picked up the next day when the x-rays were reviewed by a consultant.

Wishing your DS well.

Thanks all he's pretty much the same but soldiering on. I think he's downplaying the pain he's in for fear of me taking him back in.

He had the same injury last year on the opposite hip and it wasn't until 3 days after his A&E visit that they realised they had missed it on the x ray.

I just found it very strange they called to ask how he was mobilising and if he was managing with the pain. As another poster said though it has probably been reviewed by a more senior Dr.
