Not to go on holiday because of cats ...

wintersherenow · 13/10/2024 21:47

Basically that.
We are due (me and partner ) to go away on Wednesday.
We have 3 cats and the woman who was meant to pop in and check on them every day has said she's double booked.
So we have nobody to check on them.
None of our friends like cats so have refused.

If we don't go we loose £3,000 as tui won't refund.
It's for a week and a really nice hotel I'm so sad I was really looking forward to it.
Aibu not to go on This holiday?
We have a few other sitters to ask tomorrow but if not I'm not going.
Partner is fuming with me

I'm charged £25 per day for two visits to feed and clean litter tray, if I want them to interact with my cat, its more. I dont pay more for interaction because he hides when they come.
I get this done daily because he has wet food.

Sotired22 · 13/10/2024 22:03

Definitely post on your local Facebook group saying you’ve been let down and ask for anyone who can help - you’ll find someone. Would also ask any neighbours you get on with. I would say you need someone going in every day even if it’s only once. Surely the litter trays will need cleaning daily? And wet food dries out after a few hours so unless they’re happy to just eat dry it’ll need changing every day. They could get quite stressed with you not there, irregular food provisions and dirty litter trays.

Also look on tailster. I'm a cat/dog sitter and get loads of work through them.

Rosejasmine · 13/10/2024 22:06

Try Catinaflat website - we found an amazing last minute cat sitter on catinaflat - have had the same sitter in loads of times now.

StarDolphins · 13/10/2024 22:08

Wtf does your partner want you to do, just leave the poor things to starve?😳. I would feel the same, no way would I leave them. Hopefully you’ll find someone.

2024riot · 13/10/2024 22:08

Try cat in a flat or ask on Facebook if any pet sitters have space

Lavender14 · 13/10/2024 22:08

I think you'd find she's OK in a cattery op. My old rescue cat was really nervous and I did worry about him in a cattery but he was fine..infact he quickly learnt that if he didn't eat the first day he got tuna and chicken and the leftovers from the Sunday roast. We always used the same one and it was clean, heated and he always came home happy. He'd actually have struggled more at home alone because he wanted the constant company. I wouldn't rule it out.

TheStroppyFeminist · 13/10/2024 22:09

surely you can find another cat sitter? Yabu

LightandBreezy · 13/10/2024 22:14

As per previous suggestions, I found a nice sitter via catinaflat. Visits cost from £10 a day in my area, I usually go for 2 x visits daily which is £19 a day, but I think with 3 cats 1 daily visit would be fine as they keep each other company. I also have a funny cat camera thing that ejects treats on demand and enables me to spy on the cat, which is nice if you tend to worry/haven't met the sitter before. He ( cat not sitter :) ) definitely loves it more than me. It's easy to set up and mine is still working 4 years on so the initial outlay is ok in the long run.

Cattery OP, nervous cat will be fine. I wouldn’t want a stranger in and out of my house and every other day isn’t enough.

Missionimprobable · 13/10/2024 22:16

Narrow down North East, I'm in the NE, if you're near me I'd do it for you, I've had cats all my life.

Nervous cats will not be fine in a cattery.

Animal Aunts! They are brilliant!

EdgarAllenRaven · 13/10/2024 22:29

Just realised they have got a bit expensive now, £30ph… if you have a neighbour or local babysitter, could you perhaps offer £30 per day for 2 half hour visits?

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 13/10/2024 22:31

Mine is old and grumpy but adores the cattery - she complains all the way home when we pick her up! I wouldn’t rule it out.

Happygogoat · 13/10/2024 22:31

What’s his suggestion? I hope he is putting leg work in to sourcing alternatives.

if there truly is no other option then no YANBU because your cats would starve?!

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 13/10/2024 22:31

They charge £15 per day or part.

BiscuitlyBoyle · 13/10/2024 22:32

Ask your vets. Sometimes they will be able to recommend people or a vet nurse will do it for a bit of extra cash on the side.

CorbyTrouserPress · 13/10/2024 22:37

Reading this has made me realise I’m getting a bargain. My cat sitter charges £5 a day!

Proseccoismyfriend · 13/10/2024 22:39

I've seen your in the north east - new beginnings (they're a cat rehoming charity) offer cat feeding/cuddles

QuestionableMouse · 13/10/2024 22:39

wintersherenow · 13/10/2024 22:01

I'm in the north east .
I've just messaged quite a few people with availability on a app called rover
Is this safe ?
Does anyone know any other good apps?
They have reviews on there
And seem reasonable £13 per visit

If you're in Hartlepool I might be able to help ☺️

MrsAngelaSchrute · 13/10/2024 22:42

Could you ask next door neighbours? I'd do this for a neighbour if I was going to be home all week.
Hope you get it sorted.

noclouds · 13/10/2024 22:43

try asking neighbours? It's easier for someone near by to pop in. Our lovely neighbour fed the cats when we were away for 11 nights,

Yea Rover is safe, I work as a dog sitter through Rover. Get lots of last minute requests for dogs and cats.
