Said baby is sat facing me, separated by a glass panel. I am innocently trying to get on with some mindless scrolling on MN, but every time I dare to turn my attention away from him for a moment, he starts frantically waving at me to get my attention back. Then beams in delight when he manages to get my attention. He's doing it again right now!

He is ridiculously cute, and I also think it's pretty unreasonable to be that cute.

I was stuck in traffic last week and the toddler in the car in the opposite lane, which was also stationary, was waving at me .... so I waved back, as you do, and he burst into tears and started screaming. Luckily the car in front moved so I could drive off. I'd would have been happier if I'd made him smile.

My toddler neighbour has been amen to calling my name and asking for a story because I did it once when her mum had an emergency online meeting - how do you say know to such a reasonable (and educational) request. We didn't even have kids books in the house so the "story" was a book about the weather!

Bless. There is a distinct shortage of babies amongst my neighbours. Although one couple does have three small grandchildren that visit them often.

Are you a young man with a fine moustache? Cos my youngest was grizzly and we thought we'd have to leave our cakes half eaten till he sat down at the next table and the baby was instantly drawn to him and giggled for a solid 20 minutes.

I have a similar issue with a cute toddler in a pushchair who I pass every morning. She will insist on giving me a big smile and waving hello. Every. Single. Day.

To make it worse, her mother and I have started exchanging a cheerful "good morning". Why are we not avoiding eye contact and ignoring each other? Why is the charming little girl not glued to her mum's phone?

There's only one thing worse than a smily baby, and that's a giggly baby. How dare they be so cute when they giggle?
