To think that changing my working hours could prevent future harassment and discrimination?

I was horrifically bullied, harassed, and racially discriminated against in my last job, which ended with a significant out-of-court settlement. It took a toll on my mental health, but I’m starting to come out the other side now. As I think about re-entering the workforce, I’m wondering if there’s anything I could do to prevent this happening again.

Could changing my working hours be a solution? I worked a typical 9-5 before, and I’m considering adjusting to flexible or part-time hours to avoid being as exposed to toxic environments. AIBU to think this could make a difference, or am I focusing on the wrong issue?

Sadly, bullying and toxicity happen in many workplaces, no matter what hours you work.
Do you have skills that allow you to work from home or remotely, or for yourself?

I think if it's a toxic environment, it's the wrong place for you to work. Working part time might expose you to more toxicity - some people resent part-timers as not pulling their weight (ignoring the fact that their salary reflects their hours). I think you need to find a safe workplace and then consider what hours will be a good fit for you, not just thinking about now, but your future and pension needs.

I was thinking about this too. I do have some skills that might allow me to work from home or for myself. I’m seriously considering this as an option.
