To think my 6 year old’s brain is fascinating?

My DS is 6 and suspected ASD. He’s got an extremely logical brain and a pretty photographic memory.
Just now he said to me and his dad:

Why are things beginning with ‘S’ always number six. We didn’t understand and asked what he meant. He said: “Saturn is the 6th planet and Saturday is the 6th day of the week”

Its like he sees patterns in everything!

Love this! He sounds brilliant. Logicsl brains are needed in our world

ValentinesDayCryingInTheHotel · 12/10/2024 19:09

Both are named after Saturn, Roman god https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturn_(mythology)

ValentinesDayCryingInTheHotel · 12/10/2024 19:10

Sorry, hit enter by mistake. Amazing that he spotted the pattern. Just wanted to share the link to see if it provided more answers!

MargaretThursday · 12/10/2024 19:25

Ah Yes but June is the 6th Month and F is the 6th letter...

The human brain is wired to spot patterns. I have sat in many a boring meeting spotting patterns.

Prawngyoza · 12/10/2024 19:26

@MargaretThursday

Maybe I just find it fascinating as my brain doesn’t seem to work like that at all!

That's sweet and clever.

Hatfullofwillow · 12/10/2024 19:33

It is fascinating, so no you're not. Patterns are how we learn, create & think.

Singleandproud · 12/10/2024 19:35

DD is also autistic and her brain is fascinating, it's been mentioned on more than one occasion at Parents Evening too so it's not just me. The way she links things together and remembers things is amazing.

RickiRaccoon · 12/10/2024 19:40

It is interesting to see connections and people trying to make sense of the world in a way that's different. My son, before 2y, used to clap when he wanted cereal. I realised it was because seals clapped (he did the same action at a seal picture) and cereal sounded like seal.

MaterCogitaVera · 12/10/2024 19:41

I’m also autistic, and also love patterns like this. See whether you can find him any age-appropriate books about prime numbers :)

DespairCalling · 12/10/2024 19:44

What about Sunday then? The logic fails pretty quickly

Singleandproud · 12/10/2024 19:52

There are a lot of logic games by Think fun on Amazon, DD really liked Cat Crimes (they do Dog Crimes too) and the IQ puzzle one with the beads. It takes me FOREVER to work out what she does in about 30 seconds

In your face, six year old !

bakewellbride · 12/10/2024 20:12

My friends 4 year old is autistic and gave his mummy a lovely card on her birthday. She smiled and said aww is this from you and instead of saying yes he misunderstood and said no it's from the petrol station 😁

Pumpkinseason3 · 12/10/2024 20:24

@Prawngyoza He sounds like a fantastic kid 😊 and his brain definitely sounds fascinating to me 😊 it’ll be amazing to watch how his love of patterns develops as he grows!
I have a couple of teenage boys who are both autistic and occasionally visit my work with their families (separately). As well as being the kindest and loveliest boys, their brains are just fascinating! One is an absolute film buff and fires movie trivia at me from the minute he walks in the door 😂 he loves that I’m terrible at it! His knowledge is unreal!
The other boy is just ridiculous with dates 😳 Give him any date - day, month and year, and he immediately knows what day of the week it was. And I mean, I barely finish speaking and he’s shouting the day at me! He knows instantly 😂 He goes round all the customers that are in at the time and asks them a date then makes me check the calendar on my phone to prove he’s right 😂

I got that one mother's day. Dp gave me the card from the kids and my then 3 year old argued back absolutely outraged. No it's not, you bought it and wrote in it, I didn't!

Love how your son's mind works op. Absolutely encourage him.

StressedQueen · 12/10/2024 21:56

Aw that is really sweet. My 15 year old always used to come out with things like that and she is still very bright today so I would definitely encourage your son's mind

PeterCapaldiBae · 12/10/2024 22:10

In contrast, my ASD six year old said to me yesterday morning, "Mum, how big are elephants bumholes?"

marcopront · 13/10/2024 08:30

This made me think of this quote.

To think my 6 year old’s brain is fascinating?
Cantfindanavailablename · 13/10/2024 08:46

My seven year old asd boy also has the most fascinating brain. He has such interesting comments and observations to make on so many things. His latest interesting thought is that we don't know if we are immortal until we actually die. which is ironic considering he always says he wants to kill himself

MargaretThursday · 13/10/2024 13:35

When my ds was about 6yo, I'd had to dose the family after one of them had had threadworms. That evening we were walking home from school and there was a large worm on the pavement.
Ds said "I wonder whose bottom that fell out of". 🤣

MonkeyHair · 13/10/2024 13:43

You also wonder what goes on in the brain of an adult that can't wait to disproved something on a thread about an 6 yr old with ASD!

Your little boy sounds great OP Smile

How does he explain Sunday?

marcopront · 13/10/2024 14:10

@XDownwiththissortofthingX

How does he explain Sunday?

He didn't say things that start with S are 6th.
He said things that are 6th start with S.

There is a difference between A implies B and B implies A.
