To worry about the heating being off whilst we are away?

We are away for a week and our heating was left switched off. The thermostat (I can see via an app) is reading at 13 degrees, and I suppose it will drop lower over the next few days as they are estimating tomorrow won’t be any warmer than 9 degrees.

We are back on Monday and can switch the heating on then but I saw an article to say cold houses can cause damp and mould. With a small baby I definitely don’t want this to happen. Would you say it is fine to leave the heating off, or does it need to go on ideally for a short blast to stop it getting too cold?

It will be fine for a week. Structural damp would take a lot longer than that. Also, a lot of airborne moisture in a house is caused by people being in it. You won't be breathing out a bunch of water vapour, having steaming showers or drying laundry in yhe house while on holiday. Just open all the windows when you get home for a bit, then put on heating if you need.

Leave it on, on a lowish temperature. I would. The last thing you want is a burst pipe and it will be nice to come back to a reasonably cosy house.
