Should I ask for a second opinion?

I had my hormones checked due to lots of symptoms (poor skin, bloating, low energy).

I had only just gone on the pill 3 weeks before.

My tests all came back abnormal, but the doctor called me and said that this is because I’m on the pill. He didn’t seem to have a clue what he was talking about. He then said he’d check with a gynaecologist.

Apparently, the gynaecologist said the same thing.

I have two major concerns:

  • shouldn’t an expert opinion come from an endocrinologist? Not gynae?
  • surely if the pill causes skewed results, my estrogen would be higher? Because it’s an estrogen pill? But, my estrogen was extremely low…

should I be fighting for a second opinion?!

Yes.Personally l would get a second opinion.
Endocrinologist, would be the best route to go.With the nhs, the waits are so long, going privately might be a better option.Because then you wouldn’t have to fight, to see one through the nhs and of course have a long wait.

Your blood results are not going to be accurate since you are on the pill. You need to be off the pill for three months before checking hormone levels, and they need to be done at a specific time in your cycle.
