It's meant to be professional? Everyone can see your baby? It's just weird. Why do people do it? Aibu to get annoyed by it?

I don't really know how to vote, but I am seeing a lot more personal-ish stuff on Linkedin as people use Twitter and Facebook less for work announcements and stuff, but conversely if people see it as just another social media platform then they are going to behave the same way they do on Instagram, Facebook and even tik tok, despite it being meant for work purposes. I doubt LinkedIn will make a judgement call as it's all revenue, until perhaps it becomes an unusable mess like the other ones.

The constant mix of work and personal and then "bring your whole self to work" makes my brain fry. However, a birth announcement/or a what I am up to post might be useful to colleagues and clients for some? And it does make visible a significant part of many women's lives and careers.

All of that family stuff on LinkedIn is irritating as are some of the attitudes.

I was reading a post about flexible working and with some of the comments BTL, I thought I was in AIBU. Some people are just keyboard cranks.

I think the "I'm on maternity leave/ back now" is fine but I think putting your kid on a business site especially if you have lots of random connections is just a bit odd

I've stopped paying much attention to LinkedIn. It used to be really good as a platform for professional networking but is now full of 'look at me' promotional posts, family stuff, requests for sponsorship, poorly written 'motivational' pieces and the occasional helpful article.

Baby pictures don't surprise me now - usually accompanied with some drivel along the lines of "I was out with my son/daughter today and it reminded me to... <<insert very worthy ramblings about seizing the day, taking small steps, coaching others or the importance of work-life balance>>"

And yes, I am having a grumpy day today.

Jackiebrambles · 09/10/2024 19:35

Yea LinkedIn is awful now, jam packed with people over sharing about everything in their lives, and trying to shoehorn a small thing on how it relates to their work and career. Utter cringe. I’m only on it as a have to be for work.

So in my sector the move away from Twitter has been massive and a real loss in terms of finding out about who is doing what, when conferences and things are. A lot of moving over to LinkedIn, which has been useful, but the creep into the personal and private is definitely happening. I guess you have to just use these things in a way that works for you, for as long as they work. I don't mind the occaisional baby, just no holiday snaps please!
