Name calling

Should I speak to DS's teacher about a boy in his school who I've heard name calling my son? We're talking things like "pooey" and "naughty". E. G. Oh look there's "naughty John" "pooey Johnny" Said name calling has happened a few times on our way home from school.

Both boys are 5 in year 1, albeit different classes, so very young.

If it happened on your way home from school then what can the school do? Presumably it didn’t happen on their property?

I'd make teacher aware incase it's happening at school too

Perhaps the teacher can keep an eye on child and see if they do it in school?

OP you said it has happened a few times on the way home from school, which makes me think you collect and walk back with your son. And this has happened on route. So who was the boy with who name calls? Did they say anything to child? Could you speak to them?

Why not speak to the adult they’re walking home from school with?

Hubhubba26 · 09/10/2024 14:39

First time he was just out of ear shot of his childminder. Second time in the park, his mum was somewhere but nowhere in sight. In hindsight I wish I'd said something to the childminder

This.
It will be considered bullying if it’s happening in school.

Well if it happens again just make it your business to tell the adult, no matter whether they’re in earshot or not. I’m sure the school would expect you have at least tried to deal with it before involving them.
