I feel horrific, all the time. The only thing that helps a bit is eating, but I’ve been eating constantly and that’s starting to make me feel gross in another way! I work full time and am really struggling to do anything which also makes me feel awful (I’ve not told work yet). We are about to go on a big holiday which we planned and saved for for years (although I wasn’t planning to be pregnant for it!) and I’ll be on my 9th and 10th week which are apparently the worst. I’m so sad that if I feel like this I won’t be able to enjoy it. My husband is being amazing but I know I’m not much fun to be around at the moment either.

Please, please did you find anything that worked for you? Any tips or ideas that might help would be very welcome. Thank you

Barley sugar hard boiled sweets to suck helped me.

I got some travel bands you put around your wrists from boots, they were amazing and stopped the nausea, no idea how they work but they do!

PaperGloves · 09/10/2024 08:13

I stayed outdoors as much as possible, or in well-ventilated areas, ate a lot of plain Hula Hoops, and brought paper airline bags with me everywhere (I was commuting weekly by shorthaul flight, so had access to lots…)

Id cancel the holiday.

Dazedandconfusedma · 09/10/2024 08:57

Thanks both - have just ordered some barley sweets and nausea bands. Fingers crossed!

unfortunately I can’t cancel the holiday - we would only get about 10% back, and I couldn’t do that to my husband and son 4 days before we are due to leave! I’m glad to hear that being outside a lot will help / because I will be doing that on holiday. I have a desk bound job, 80% from home and I’m sure it’s making it worse (although grateful I’m not taking tons of short haul flights!!!)

Porridge. Dry cream crackers. Sips of water. Lots of sleep. Other than that, I just had to ride it out. But I was vomiting constantly until 16 weeks whereas yours is nausea so hopefully the above measures will help. I did find being on holiday helped!

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Acupuncture has a good record for all things fertility and pregnancy, childbirth related.

I don't mean a gp doing it free in a doctors office, I mean a therapist that does it day in day out and specialises in womens health.

First one £55 as they take a history etc, £45 after that. Can be dearer though. Depends where you are.

They are all registered and insured with the processional body.

That would be my first goto as it's safe and doesn't involve pills and potions.

Himawarigirl · 09/10/2024 09:11

Plain hula hoops worked for me too, I think the salt seemed to help, and nibbling on dry crackers. But honestly it was all a case of waiting it out. Not what you want to hear I know. But you have my sympathies, it’s awful. Mine lasted 6 months with my first.

CandiedPrincess · 09/10/2024 09:13

Salt and vinegar crisps and those Cheddar biscuits - but the big ones, not the minis. Must be the salt. Also Granny Smith apples and satsumas. I basically survived on that for about 14 weeks.

OneKookyPinkShaker · 09/10/2024 09:45

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

I had awful morning sickness and found salt and vinegar crisps or salty crackers was the only thing that would help me.

I also really struggled to stomach water during this time but found fizzy drinks helped so tried fizzy flavoured water so I wasn't downing Fanta orange constantly!

I also ate a lot of spearmint soft chew mints and took them everywhere to get rid of the horrible metal taste in my mouth as I found that triggered sickness feeling.

I also went on holiday at this point my husband had booked a surprise trip to Rome for my 30th before we knew I was pregnant. The flight attendants were lovely I let them know and they gave me extra sick bags, brought me water checked on me during the flight.

We were doing a lot of walking on the holiday so I just had to take regular breaks in cafe's to use the toilet and have drinks. We went back to the hotel lots for me to lie down as it was over 30 degrees so that didn't help. I carried sick bags everywhere but I found I was able to power through a lot more over there

My tips aren't the healthiest unfortunately but the only things that worked for me.
Sipping freezing cold water (I had a water cooler at work which made this easier.)
Cold sprite/7up/lemonade. Polo mints
Peppermint tea
Fruit - apples and grapes were good.
Ice lollies.
I always made sure I ate a ginger biscuit as soon as I woke up even if I didn't feel hungry - do not wait or you will feel worse.

doodleschnoodle · 09/10/2024 10:27

With pregnancy 1, I basically lay on the sofa for 6 weeks wishing the time away.

Pregnancy 2 I couldn't do that as DC2. I did get some anti-nausea meds that maybe helped a little but honestly it was just shit until it eased off and I didn't really find any 'hack' for it that time round either.

Ate a lot of apples, oddly.

Elderberrier · 09/10/2024 10:27

I was like you with nausea but no actual vomiting, and eating was what eased it. I did put a lot of weight on in my pregnancies but lost it easily enough. I found having oatcakes by the bed, or whatever you fancy, so I could eat as soon as I woke, or during the night, v helpful. Hope the bands help!

Chromey · 09/10/2024 10:28

Vitamin P5P - it's a type of B vitamin that comes from vitamin B6 and is known to reduce pregnancy nausea. You can get it in Holland and barret or online. took it three times a day and wore the anti nausea wristbands and managed to get through some tricky times with those.

I also had cyclizine prescribed from the GP which I didn't end up using but maybe get some to take away with you in case you need it.

LittleMG · 09/10/2024 10:30

I found you just had to get through it minute by minute. I felt awful all the time. Orange ice lollies helped while I was having one but once it’s gone sickness returns. You can get medication from the dr, sometimes it helps, but I wouldn’t have high hopes for the holiday if it were me I couldn’t have gone. It does however clear up about week 16 and you start to feel better again.

Sundaysunshine21 · 09/10/2024 10:39

I was completely unprepared for how bad it was too, I never vomited but felt absolutely dreadful! Almost vomited in very inappropriate places regularly lol. i also worked full time and no one knew, in hindsight i wish I’d told work earlier (everyone else I spoke to who’d been pregnant admitted they’d told one trusted manager early on).

I was prescribed cyclizine but never used it as I was being overly cautious. Didn’t focus too much on eating healthily for those early few weeks, mostly ate what I fancied as I thought it’s better for the baby to actually get some nutrients.

My sickness more or less disappeared at about 12-14 weeks. I still had some odd food aversions throughout the pregnancy.

Congratulations! Honestly I was just so happy and grateful to be pregnant I wasn’t overly upset by the sickness. It wasn’t easy though.

Love heart or refreshers sweets, no idea why but they worked for me both pregnancies 🤷‍♀️
