Picked him up on Thursday from nursery and he was crying and whingey as soon as I picked him up. Very clingy. His key worker said he seemed tired and that they'd noticed some spots on his face that then later disappeared. He does get random red marks on his face sometimes that then disappear, so I thought not much of it.

Anyway when I got home I did notice he was warm.

He had a little fever. I gave medicine and he seemed ok again. He was awake in the night needing more medicine. On Friday he seemed mostly ok on and off. Sometimes he was down and out and other times he was super happy and normal. I gave him medicine 3-4 times a day on average.

Yesterday it was much of the same, completely normal when taking medicine and crashing when it wears off.

Today the same again.

I didn't think much of it. It seems like a virus to me. He's got a tiny cough and his throat looks red, his eyes are gunky. The usual things he has when he has a virus. He's eating and drinking when he feels ok. He's going to the toilet regularly.

A friend said to definitely take him to the GP tomorrow and I will, if the fever doesn't go but I haven't felt the need to be too worried yet.

Fevers have gone up to 39,5 a couple of times but usually around 38-38.5 mark.

Would you take him tomorrow ? I will if the fever still comes back I think.

Tbh I probably wouldnt from what you’ve described- sounds like a virus. If the medicine does bring the temp down, or he stops taking fluids then I would.

SantasRubiksCube · 06/10/2024 21:05

I'd just keep an eye on him, if the fever goes with medicine then just keep giving it to him as recommended on the bottle. If there's nothing particular bothering him then probably just a viral thing but obviously if he doesn't seem well again in a day or two maybe rethink the doctors?

Sounds like a run of the mill virus, have something similar myself this weekend, but a GP trip isn’t going to hurt any! It’ll be peace of mind anyway

BarbaraHoward · 06/10/2024 21:09

I wouldn't be going to the GP with those symptoms personally. These viruses can drag on. If the temp is going very high, not coming down with meds, he's dehydrated etc etc etc then yes of course.

I remember being surprised when a friend sheepishly admitted she hadn't brought her toddler to the doctor with a bog standard virus - turned out she'd been bringing both kids with every ailment til then!

I probably wouldn't as long as he's eating and drinking and seeming ok in himself. Mine have sometimes had fevers on and off for a week or so, it can be normal for a virus.
However he's a young child and if at all worried you should take him. Don't feel you don't deserve an appointment as he's not bad enough. Lots of people take their little ones in for even a day or 2 of fever and that's fine too. They are precious

Macaroninecklace · 06/10/2024 21:23

No I wouldn’t. It’s only been a few days. A fever that responds to medication and a child that’s breathing normally, eating and drinking normally, active, not in pain etc just sounds like a run of the mill virus that no one can do anything much about. I wouldn’t be particularly concerned about it.

I don’t think asking for an appointment is unreasonable if you’re actually worried about him though.
