To make a move closer to family

Wondering about whether to make a big move to be closer to family. Currently at 3-4 hour drive away. We won't be moving to same town per se, maybe a 45min - hour closer.

Thinking of starting a family, so realistically won't be moving for a year or two yet.

The problem is we love where we live now. And just wonder if we'd regret it. But then people obviously live happy lives where my family are as well.

Pros:

  • could potentially afford to buy a house (currently renting and prospects seem low or a long way off where we are currently).
  • work, it will be easy for me to relocate and DH has potential to WFH.
  • family closeness
  • any children will grow up spending more time with grandparents

Cons:

  • saying goodbye to beautiful beaches and scenery on doorstep (although I feel the area is declining and becoming more unsafe, but I know this is everywhere)
  • I love my current work team

You are being unreasonable - don't make the move
You are not being unreasonable - make the move

Ultimately, it would be nice to here other peoples lived experiences if you don't mind sharing.
Husband and I keep thinking let's do it, but then doubts come niggling in....

Also to add - no family where we are currently. Only 2 or 3 what I would call close friends.

I think the question is, do you like where your family live? Or would they be the only draw of living there + house purchase

So we haven't picked a town where the family because of that reason, I wasn't sure we'd be happy living there so have picked another location 40 minutes out.
We have no experience living there but familiar with the area growing up and on paper would suit a family lifestyle.
We are planning to spend a few days there soon so we'll hopefully get more of an idea then.
